No, the PS30 and 31 are not the same transducer. They differ in terms of software, capabilities, etc.

I'd just like to ditto what Todd said. The unit reads from the transducer whether it is PS30 or PS31 and then provides the software designed for that transducer and function.
My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.
I also have a question. How well does the PS-31 pick up fish that tend to hug the bottom? I fish walleyes quite a bit as was wondering if they will show up when not suspended? Thanks
I think it will depend on how active they are and how close to the bottom.
If they are just sitting there on the bottom, you wont have a clue. If they are moving around, you should be bale to see that. I ran into that sturgeon fishing last fall. We anchored up in the current (Columbia river) and I scanned all around and didnt see squat. After a while I noticed that one hump/blob on the bottom seemed to have moved, so I watched it closer and after a bit I saw it change position a bit. Over the next several minutes it slowly moved around but didnt go far. I wasnt sure it was a fish until it moved against the current. It never did break away from the bottom though. Just one of many bumps.
