    Motorized Stern light question

For those who have the latest edition of BWB magazine, they list a new product from Innivative Lighting "Motorized Stern Light" This is exactly what i'm looking for because I hate nothing worse than having to find my lights and plug them in just for the ride home at night. They don't list a motorized Bow light? I wonder why not? that would be cool having both motorized and activated by the dash switches.

Does anyone know if Skeeters have 20 inches of clearance underneath back in the rigging area? (This clearance is needed by the Stern light when retracted) I would assume a Bow light (if it existed) would only need 4-5 inches of clearance since they are only 8-12 inches high anyways...

What are your guys thoughts on this? I think it would be sweet to have both lights on retractable motors..

They look like some nice lights and would keep you from digging out the poles out but $200 . I think i would have to stay with my regular ones.

Spending money on our rigs, isn't that what life's all about?

You gotta admit, having both your Bow and Stern lights pop up automatically with a push of the button would be badass...

IF you fish tournaments and this thing decides not to work for boat check, as running lights so often do, you could be in trouble. Not something you can just run to Wally mart and fix.

Re: Motorized Stern light question (5 Alive)

I was thinking for the weekend warrior "pimp my ride" boater/bass fisherman, obviously a pro is probably going to go with the more practical application..

I usually fish until it starts to get dark on my lake and hate having to grab the lights, screw them in, drive home, unscrew the lights, put them away...

For me, it would be a big convience factor to make the purchase..

The biggest drawback I see is what happens if you bend the shaft? What is the cost to repair it?

Re: Motorized Stern light question (frogbite)

Probably costly, but the fact that it only retracted when being used should reduce the chance of that happening.

Sea Ray ski boats use to have these the big problems were the motor would freeze up then the light would be stuck. The next would be the pole would bend if you hit some thing it would bend. Heck most bass boats dont have 20" inces of clearence in the back anyways. I am staying away from these. JMHO

I've long pondered a manually operated telescopic design.

Now that's something I would like. I just don't trust that the electric one would last long, but a manual one that you just reach down and pull up. Now that would be something I would buy.

They have a manual version too

I've spoken to someone in their Sales/Marketing department, they are working on a retractable bow light too.

I too think that the chance of bending it to the point it won’t go back in is a problem.

The lights we have now bend to easy and I’ve seen them get bent many different ways and once this happens you’re now stuck with it sticking out and in the way.

JumpinJohn is right most bass boat including Skeeter don’t have the room for it.

Don’t get me wrong I’d like to see this in action, if someone does install one please post pictures and let us know how the install went as well as how it holds up!

I guess I'd rather it be the weak link and bend vs: ripping out the fiberglass and screws.. Cool concept.
