Has anyone here traded in an 04 tzx 190 with the 150vmax? I am thinking of upgrading and trying to get a good idea of what trade in value is vs selling it on my own.

You would be better off to sell it yourself. But I am not sure what it's worth. A friend of mine just bought an 05 with a 150VMAX for around $20,500.00 but I would not trade my 04 for it. So the condition of the boat really matters more than the year, except at the finance company.

a local marine has a 05 for sale 19,500 don't know trade in value.
Trade in value is probably around $12,000, retail around $16,000. Don't forget to look at the carrying risk though when trading in. If you do end up selling it on your own, but it takes 4 months, that monthly payment (assuming you have 1) would cut your net down farther. That price of a boat is borderline, 80% of those customers are going to finance and will need the help of a dealer for financing. Local banks will not go long enough on the loans to be affordable.
The main reason 4-sale by owners boat don't sell is financing and warranties.
Remember that dealer is buying your boat from you with the idea of selling it for the normal profit. There is a good chance though at this time of year that a dealer would give you a lot better money for your trade just to move a leftover boat and to create some cash flow.
Good luck,
Matt
Well after weighing all the options I am just going to sell it myself. I may eat a few months of payments but I feel that is my best option. The dealer I am buying my new boat from does not really want to deal with the trade. It's a 15 hour drive to the dealer so I can't just run it up there and let them look at it. Hopefully I can sell it within a month or two and not have to worry about. If it does take a while to sell my wife is gonna kill me!
Rob,
If it is priced right, it will sell. Do not over value it. Prior to putting it up for sale, a good detailing and maybe a compression test from a mechanic with a readout if possible to show a prospective buyer will be a big help. Determine the value and the price you actually want for it because when you do put it up for sale and it doesn't sell soon, you tend to get anxious and lower the price. Then, people think there is someting wrong. Remember, 90% of the time, the reason why something doesn't sell is that the price is too high. Good Luck , it's a nice boat. AL
