Yamaha did some tweeking to the oil pump. No more blown power heads.
Per my Yamaha sales training 2 weeks ago...
1) Re-programmed ECM.
2) Recalibrated Oil Injection System. (The HPDI service bulletin did the same thing to the motors affected. It was remapped in the mid-range rpms.)
3) Newly designed forged pistons.
4) 3 year factory warranty vs. 2 year on HPDI.
I think I will stay away from the series 2 this go around just incase they end up with chronic problems like the OMC Fichts. HPDI for me.

The Series 2 IS an HPDI. It is not a new engine, just some improvements. They could easily have made the changes and not even added Series 2 to the name. It's just a marketing thing to keep up wit the Joneses.
There is no reason to stay away from the Series 2 HPDI. They basically took the last 4-5 years of service data and tweaked a few components to make the engine run more reliable. It's still the same HPDI with 99.9 % of the same parts.
