    Skeeter 20i rod boxes leaking

Has anyone else got a skeeter iclass that all of the dry storage boxes leak? I was trailering mine this weekend and it was pouring the rain and almost every box on it had some kind of water inside of them. It appears to be coming between the bottom side of the metal vertical lip and where in is mounted on the flat part of the frame. Looks like it should have had some kind of gasket between those surfaces. Any suggestion?

Re: Skeeter 20i rod boxes leaking (Jamie)

    Jamie,

We see this quite often, however its seems to vary from boat to boat I had a 2006 20Iclass that was 100% watertight(except for the day box area, however one of my buddies has a 2008 zx250 that leaks like a sieve. We ran a bead of black cauld around the metal lip and all the scrtew holes. I think these screw holes is where allot of the water comes in. The only place we could never get 100% waterproof was the day box. Godd Luck

Thanks I will try that. Other than the leaking boxes the boat is great.

Every boat I've owned (including two Rangers, one Triton, and three Skeeters) has gotten some water in compartments if you're in a downpour. Especially if you're trailering the boat. Wind seems to drive the water in. "Normal" rain hasn't been a problem on any of them.

There's positive and negatives to all situations. If you seal them to tight if you put something wet in the boxes it will never dry out (rot, rust or spoil). If you don't seal them good enough then water can get in. There's a fine border here. It's a nature of all brands boats. I personally prefer a storage box that can breath a little to prevent rot, rust, mildew and spoilage.

I've never had much concern with my 20i's. The rod boxes are open to the front too. Have you added accessories to the front deck like a graph? THose screw holes go right into the storage boxes also.
