Can you fire it up on the hose? See where the gas is coming from. On my engine, which is a 96, if you don't get the cap screwed back on the fuel filter, it won't run right either. It will start and run, and then die, then start, run and then die.

Disconnect your fuel line at the motor, put it on the tank that doesn't flow, and pump the bulb and see what happens. You probably have an air leak. You have to make sure you have a good solid fuel flow to the fuel pump.

On the gaskets, are you talking about the round ones that go between the carbs and the cover?

I don't know about the 60 degree looper engines, which is what you have and I now have, but on a 90 degree, messing with the airbox is asking to have issues, so I would replace those gaskets before running the engine. I wold be concerned the carbs without those would run a little lean and that could also be where the fuel is coming from.
