    Striker 7SV VS. Echomap 73SV

So i want to get two unites for my boat, a 7 inch up front (GPS/SONAR/DV) and a 7 Inch in back that has SV and can connect to front graph (Currently have lowrance Elite 7 HDI at console I will leave and put new & inch next to.

I'm on a very tight budget and would like to know the difference between the Striker and Echomap models. I know Striker isnt Panoptix compatable (non-issue for me) but screen resolution and speed from scrolling from screen to screen are. Accurate GPS is also important.

SO what do I get in the Echomap that I don't get in the Striker?

    Please let me know.

    Thank You,

The Stryker doesn't have mapping, only basic GPS and waypoint marking. GPS screen is just an icon of a boat on white background.
I didn't need mapping, only side scan, so I went with the Stryker model and saved a few hundred. I've been playing around with mine in simulator mode, and navigating screen to screen is very easy. Options are easy to get to and easy to change. I like the ability to build my own screens too.
I did notice the 73SV's that have been on sale lately don't have chirp, so keep an eye on that if it's a requirement.

    Thanks BassMD,

I would want an Echomap73DV up front then (need mapping capabilities) and the Striker 7SV would work perfect sitting next to my Lowrance Elite 7 HDI at the helm (use for mapping) at the console!

What do you mean by mapping? Can you get navionics maps on the Striker? I've been looking at the humminbird helix as well but it doesn't seem to be as sleek and is bigger and heavier than the striker but screen size is the same.

Navionics chips don't work with Garmins. I don't believe the lake vu maps will work either. I would rather buy the non chirp echomap 73sv than buy the stryker 7sv chirp for the same money, but that's just me.

Thanks, are there any map chips available for the stryker, whats the deal with the echomap are they already pre-loaded? I've mostly only had older lowrance products with navionics (Elite/ & older LMS series) and a few cheaper humminbirds, way past time to upgrade and I like the look and feel of the Garmins.

Striker units have no mapping (just GPS function, wpts, and a route and track function), and no SD card reader. With echoMAPs, yes the LakeVu HD mapping is built-in with the inland versions.

Ok didn't realize that, explains the lower price on the striker. Do both units use the same tranducer for side vu or is the echomaps one larger?

Echomaps come with lakevu installed and also allow you to use a micro sd card to save waypoints, buy additiona mapping from Garmin that has tons of additional features, and let's you use quick draw. For the same money (to me at least) it's a no brainer. I'll give up chirp for mapping any day of the week.

You don't have to give up chirp. Striker has full chirp functionality with a chirp transducer. Maps? Yep. No maps. And no card slot. But the 2d, side and down is impressively crisp. What it does, it does very well.
My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.
