    Skeeter fuel valve

    OK guys...

    Have a question for ya!

Went for a ride on a Skeeter and saw a good idea that I want to incorporate into my Ranger (feel free to pile on at this point )

In the back you have a fuel valve that lets you select LEFT, RIGHT or BOTH tanks for fuel. My Ranger only has the LEFT and RIGHT, gets to be a pain to even them up......

Any ideas of the part number on the valve? Or any Skeeter dealers that I can get the part from????

I think you can find a new one for about $48.000 at any skeeter dealer and they throw in a new I Class to boot. What a deal!

This shouldn't be a hard item to find with a few phone calls to local marine shops. Funny thing I have bought several items for my skeeter from the triton dealer because the price was cheaper.

Carlos, this link is to the valve itself. Skeeter apparently builds or buys the little assembly that they mount it to but you could probably come up with something simple mounting solution yourself.

Why would someone want to choose one tank over the other? Shouldn't it just be set on both all the time or have no valve?

    Re: Skeeter fuel valve (BjBnet!)

The only reason I run one side if I'm making a long run and fuel becomes an issue. If I run till one tank is empty - I should have enough to get back home. Also some will run to equalize weight distribution for those of us that have a little extra counterbalance.

good idea on the 1/2 out 1/2 back. I usually do not have to make runs that long (Thanks goodness)

Counterbalance comes to mind though.....I usually jsut run and load balance as I go for fuel from one side to the other

    Carlos:
Just make sure that both fuel lines from the tanks to the valve are the exact same length or it will not draw from both tanks evenly when set to "both." I know from experience!

Re: Skeeter fuel valve (Skeeter Madness)

yea I thought of counter balance but that would only work as the fuel is draining.....slowly. Good idea Doug for the 1 tank heading out and 1 in. Makes sense.

    Don,
Why? I do not understand why that might make a diffrence? But, I need to make sure that the lines from teh tank to the valve are the same length no matter what, right?

Re: Skeeter fuel valve (Carlos H)

When I run mine on "both" my port side seems to empty just a little faster than the starboard, it's not enough to really matter though. Interesting thought about the length of the hoses.

Re: Skeeter fuel valve (Carlos H)

If they aren't even length, it will draw from one tank much faster than the other. The reason is that it pulls fuel using a small vacuum, so if one side has less resistance (shorter hose) it will only draw from that side until empty.

I relocated my fuel valve and had one hose much shorter than the other and I could never get it to draw from both tanks. I spoke with Skeeter and they told me to make sure both hoses are the same length for the reason stated above. I made the change and mostly solved my problem. One tank will still draw a little faster than the other, but it's fairly insignificant. Hope this helps.
