    Setting up a new 2007 ZX190 with a 150 HPDI

Hello guys, I need some help setting up my new Skeeter ZX190. It's completely broke in now and I'm ready to start tinkering with it. It has a Yamaha 150 HPDI with a 23" Yamaha prop on it. I'm running at WOT at 59 GPS MPH @ 6100 RPM. I have no idea if the RPM's are too high or if I getting maximum speed out of it. Any jackplate setting advise, prop pitch, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

I would have expected around 62 to 63 mph. 6100 rpm is at the upper limit. I have seen tach readings be off as much as 200 rpms. Have your dealer run the Yamaha diagnostics on the engine. The ECM (computer) logs rpm info and you can verify the 6100 rpm reading.

THATS MOST LIKELY CORRECT I HAVE A 2007 ZX190 WITH 150 CARB W/23M PROP AND STOCK I RAN 58.9 GPS AT 6000-6100 55-60 DEG OUTSIDE, TWO PEOPLE AND FULL LOAD. I MOVED THE JACK PLATE UP UNTIL WATER PRESSURE STARTED TO DROP (I LIKE TO KEEP IT 18-20 PSI) AND NOW I AM AT 61.5 GPS TWO PEOPLE, FULL LOAD, ONE LIVEWELL FULL, AND 75-80 DEG OUTSIDE SAME RPM RANGE. JUST MOVE YOUR JACK PLATE UP 1/4 TO 1/2 INCH AT A TIME TILL YOUR WATER PRESSURE DROPS OR TILL SPEED DROPS. I DID NOT CHECK THE FACTORY SETTING BUT I WHEN UP ABOUT 1 1/2 INCHES. I COULD GO FARTHER BUT I FISH ALLOT ON A RIVER AND EVERY LITTLE TURN I WOULD HAVE TO TRIM DOWN OR LOSE PRESSURE. WITH IT SET A LITTLE LOWER I ONLY HAVE TO TRIM DOWN ON BIGGER TURNS. I HAVE NOT WRECKED MY PROP YET BUT WHEN I DO IM GOING TO SEND IT TO THE GUY ON THIS SITE THAT EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT. ALLOT OF GOOD THINGS HEARD.

If the current rpm of 6100 is correct, raising the JP could increase rpms. I believe the ECM will start dropping cylinders at 6150.

As I have stated so many times in the past...Yamaha needs to offer a 24p in the M series props like Merc does in the Tempest. The 23s are a little too short on pitch and the 25s are a little too much for the combo you are running. You should prop that combo to run 5800-5900 rpms where it will make it's best HP. The best way to get the rpms where they need to be would be to have the prop pitched up to a 24. That will drop the Rs about 200 and you might as well have it blueprinted at the same time. In doing this you should see 2-3mph increase. Get with Mark on the props forum he can fix you right up.
