1993 Skeeter ZX 175, which motor?

I bought a 1993 Skeeter ZX175 with a Mariner 2.5 EFI motor. Problem is the motor has a hole in it! I am trying to figure out the best (and most econnomical way) to power it. I see several what I think are good deals on 150 HP motors but I wonder just how much I will lose over getting the 175 fixed? Never dealt with a blown motor before but it looks like alot more to repair it compared to repowering it with a nice used 150. What do you think?

    Thanks

My Suzuki 150SS can push me about 62 mph with 2 people and a full load.
    God bless,

    hey Mark,

I have the same boat with a merc 150 (a 2.4) best speed was 66.2 (with me, bout 1/3rd gas, and a loads of tackle) it had reeds, shaved heads... then the oil injector failed seized the #2 piston, and threw the rod (made a hole on the block)
I bought a good used powerhead (drop-on) without the oiler (I now mix)
at the time I was looking, used 175hp were few and too much $'s
the used powerhead and the labor was bout 2500. hope that helps ya

Thanks John for the reply, it's funny because I was just looking at your boat in the Skeeter owner pictures section. What a nice looking rig you have. I was thinking about just putting a 150 on mine. Speed is not a real big priority with me. One thing for sure and that is I will be mixing oil too!!!!!!

    Mark,
there is also a whole lot you could do to a merc/mariner 2.5 if speed gets important for ya :)

I think my plan will be to get the boat home and tear into the motor to see what it looks like. I know the rod came out the block so a short block may be my best bet if I can find one at good price. Looks to me though that what you would pay for a short block you can buy a nice 150? All I know is I want to be ready for Spring!!!!
