    yet another gps mounting question....

i have searched the archives and looked at the gps specific topic and have not seen this answered. im going to mount my gps antenna by my drivers console, of course on my skeeter that is not a perfectly flat surface. will it still be okay or do i need to find another spot. it is on a zx210c, and while the slope is gradual, there is still a slope and i dont want to screw my reception up.

you can place it on the section next to the console at an angle and it should work fine. There are some that have mounted it under the wind shield, under the console, and they claim that it works just fine. I have mine mounted on the side of the console and it works fine. If you post your email, I'll send you a picture, etc.. or you can go to GENERAL BOAT TOPICs section on this forum and search and you'll see different boat brands and idea's, etc... There's also special brakets that you can purchase that allow you to mount it behind the head unit. I'd do a little research on here before you drill holes to get all you options and idea's how others have done it, etc..

Mine is mounted on the console as well with no problems

Some boat Mfg's are even mounting them in the battery compartment, they say as long as there is no metal to block the signal it will work fine.

My next one will be under the windshield

Here is a pic of mine.

I have not had any problems with it being there and at a slight angle. The only thing that i done that i wish i didn't was the four holes for the antanna. Wish i would have used silicone or velcro. Oh well, i'm living with it.

Yep, it will work fine where you want to place it, and yes, use Marine Goop, or Plumber's Goop, or silicon to attach it instead of screws. Just put a circle of goop down, press the antenna down over the goop, and duct tape it down to the glass overnight. Works great. I would be cautious about putting it under the windshield since the angle is steep, and if any of your friends or partners press hard on the windshield you are likely to end up with a cracked windshield or antenna.

I have seen a lot of people who have them mounted there but mine or my partners would not hold a signal there. We might have got the only pucks that were pain in the a@@es but just try it before you mount it. I had to back mine up around the gear shifter.
I don't know where we are, but we are making darn good time.

here is how i mounted mine. when i got ready to mount mine i called lowrance and they told me the units that have the cooling grill on the back need to be at least a foot away from the unit. i am making another post on all the enhancements i have done lately.

Never had any problems with mine. I even get a signal while sitting in the garage. Go figure. I like where MDZX225 has his. Of course, some people don't like it there cause it will be off when making Waypoints. I guess its on where you want it at.

Re: yet another gps mounting question.... (fishin couillon)

where i have mine allows for more accuracy when making waypoints. so pretty much the antenna is directly on top on the tranducer, where as if you have the antenna mounted on the consol or bow you could have 10 to 20 foot difference in the antenna and transducer. this is all saying your using a transducer that is mounted in your hull. i to have great reception. it will pick up my garage also, however it will not pick up in the garge if WAAS is enabled.
