Re: Seafoam or Ring free (earl)

I run Seafoam in every tank of gas used in the boat; Don's cocktail to be more exact. I use one ounce of Seafoam, Quickkleen, and Marine Stabil per 6 gallons of fuel...........................Keeps engine nice and happy......................RR

Re: Seafoam or Ring free (GhostComanche)

Not trying to stir the pot here, but doesn't Seafoam and Quickleen do the same thing? Don't they both prevent carbon buildup in the motor? Why would two different products be necessary to accomplish the same end result?

Or does Seafoam have a different purpose than Quickleen?

I understand Sta-Bil is a fuel stabilizer. I use it whenever the boat sits for over a month or two to prevent octane loss and/or deal with ethanol fuel. But Sta-Bil in every tank when you may be filling your tank every week or so during peak fishing periods?

With the price of gas now around $3.60, just filling a 48 gal tank would cost $172.80. Adding 6 oz of all three additives per tank would add approx. an add'l $18.75 per tank. That's an add'l cost of 11%. The cost per tank would then go to $191.55.

On a regular basis, I add Quickleen to every tank year round. Maybe it's just me, but isn't that enough when the boat is not sitting around collecting dust in the garage due to winter weather, surgery, etc?

Re: Seafoam or Ring free (BrownTrout)

I use Mercury Quickleen and Quickare, instead of marine sta-bil, year around in every gallon of gas.

I use my boat year around. It is in dry storage at a marina so I bring the gas I need in 5 gallon jugs. If I tow, I fill both tanks completely as a convenience thing. Even though I run the tank low before I switch sides, I figure there must be a decent amount that doesn't get used up. While there is that possibility that gas will sit for longer than 30 days in my tank & loosing octane, it would be uncommon.

I'm more worried about the ethanol. In time, it might be shown that I'm wasting my money but right now, I feel it is cheap insurance.

On the other hand I could be missing my oportunity to upgrade from the 225 Opti to the 225 ProXS
