I have an 1994 ranger cherokee 107 aluminum 17.5 foot bass boat with a 94 60hp johnson outboard. I bought back in Feb. of 2011. I love the boat but I want to up grade the outboards. I want to max it out to its recommened 75 but I dont know if I can put a 75 merc. optimax on it and it still be safe. Anyone have any opinions on this? I am also recarpeting the boat even though it doesnt need it and I am looking to have it repainted.
Why not if it's rated for a 75?
you won't have any issues putting a 75 opti on it...the boat can handle more than it's rated...throw the 75 opti on it and you'll love it!!!

The only reason I ask is because a friend of mine said the transom is only rated for so much weight and that my old 60 weighs less than a.newer 75.
what's the difference in weight?

Like smallawbasser said call ranger if your concerned, but if the boat is rated for 75, i wouldn't be too worried about it.
