great boat same all all other Rangers just not the top of the lineup with out all the stock bells and goodies. It was the same hull form a previous year with a new top cap. They fish great like all rangers and some of them like a R81 with a 175 are very fast for a older Ranger.
I run a 1998 R71 and it was a great boat at a entry level priceI run it for 3 years and it never let me down and fished like a 18 foot boat but got great gas mileage since it only has a 115 or 125 hp motor.

i have an r72 and love it
I am actually considering a '98 R71 with a 115
I Own a 2001 R83VS --dual console--I love the boat...175 EFI --fast and stable and fishes big.

how is 8k for a '98 with a merc 115? boat is in avg cond not mint not ragged out BUT seeing as its FL its been fished year round and on BIG water meaning Okeechobee
That's high IMO. I bought a 97 R82 (in FL as well) last year for $7000 with a 150. Boat is cherry mint (although the trailer was a little rough).

kinda figured as much I am pretty sure its out of the running..thanx for the reply
yes that is a bit high for a average condition boat and being from Fla it may have a lot of hours on motor also. I would offer him 6500.00 and inform him the boat needs some work to get it in better shape and see what he says.
as much as I would not mind havin a Ranger I think I wanna go a bit newer so again thanx to all who replied
remember the older Rangers are still better that a lot of the newer year boats. Ranger quality and resale value makes there older boats still a great deal and value. Look how many 3 series boats are still in use and look fantastic from back in the 90's and 80's.
I sold mine last March in 3 days from the time it was listed for sale and it was a 98 and the person that bought it was in a newer other brand boat
I had a '96 - R70 and to this day can kick myself for selling it. Without a doubt it was the best fishing platform there was for a boat that size. Great storage, great ride, ran 52 GPS all day long with a 115 Merc. loaded down. You would not be disappointed if you were to get one.

I would stick with Ranger and find another unless you get him down to about 6K and you get the motor and everything checked out good....Maybe 6500..... NOT 8K..

i got a r80, the boat did have a 3 month old merc 150 pro xs on the back though and was in very very good contition and i gave 13500.
there are a good many R7 series boats out there. if you want a 17 foot boat for the size and ease of fishing in tight places and better gas mileage. If he does not want to haggle on the price just move on and look for another R 7 series.
more like my GARAGE wants a 17 footer I want a 21 but................
