721/SHO Props & Setup; let's tune em in

OK, the drama of having a busted motor is long behind me (thanks again Berkeley Outdoor Marine; Monks Corner, SC) so now let's talk about tuning em' in.

Right now I'm running the stock T1 27p Prop at 3.5" below pad and on an 8" T&H Manual JP.

Summer Time Numbers are: 5,800 RPM WOT, Top Speed 74 GPS, Bow lift is suffering some in the heat as the 27 seems too tall for the boat right now. Got the 2 new signature series power poles lifted all of the way up so there is 100% no drag at all from those on the water.

Winter Time Numbers are: 5,800 RPM WOT, Top Speed 76.7 GPS, Bow lift is fine and the 27p still seems a bit tall for the boat since I'd rather turn 6,000 but cannot.

    So...... Options are:

    1) Have this prop Balanced & Blueprinted with the option of adding some more cup to the trailing edge (lifts the stern).

    2) Go the way of the 4 blade and get the Turbo TXP-OT4 in a 26p which is supposed to be just unreal according to the Bullet & Skeeter guys.

    3) Go the way of the new Turbo FXP 3 blade that's been made for the SHO in a 26p which is getting super high marks from the Skeeter boys and is now shipping on many the FX boats as Yamaha bought Turbo and they are making the props for Yamaha now I'm told by a Turbo dealer.

What to do, what to do? Let's hear from you on the matter & what you are doing and how come you're doing it. Hold on one sec, I gotta get some

OK, all set, let's hear it.

I don't think we will know the answer until someone with a Phoenix gets one of these props and tests it out.

    I nominate you.....

I am wondering about a four blade especially with Phoenix's that are stern heavy with Power poles and/or big PM1 batteries like I have.

Either way a 26 something should do the trick!

first thing I'd do would be change the JP to an Atlas...

I am running a 27 t1 at 6k RPMs right about 77 difference is I have a hydraulic plate and running it very high, I think if you were to come up a little you would get your RPMs with the 27. Also I would love to see SHO #s with the new 27 Fxp

Thanks Layne. Any issues with bow lift (or lack of) with that prop? Mine is 3.5" below pad and if I go any higher it won't lift the bow properly. Setback would be nice with that 10" JP for sure also.

I'm really wanting to try that 4 blade as the demo boat I ran was a ProXS with a Verado gear case on it and it had a 26p Trophy 4 blade and that boat ran like a scalded dog at times up to 78 MPH GPS through the roughest of waters here on Lake Norman.

The 4 blade turns your boat in to an SUV but if you pitch it right you won't lose much on top but will sacrifice some typically. That Hydro Plate is the deal for sure. Jack that baby up, put the 4 blade on there, and let it rip. The SHO likes to be up high from what I've been reading and am being told.

Hydraulic Jackplate!!!! You will never get a hole shot that you will be happy with, while running the enigne at the maximum allowable height with a manual plate, JMO

The Key to speed on the 721 is the 10 or 12 inches of set back hydraulic plates are really good on the sho btw

try a 27 Tempest plus...just a bit smaller diameter and adds incredible lift, at least it did wonders for my ZX250.

UGH!!!!! If I only knew then what I know now..... (heard that before haven't we all?)

Just getting the facts straight not only for my current rig but also for my upcoming 921 order from the guys at Berkeley Outdoor Marine down in Monks Corner, SC here before too long once I get me a good look see at this newly designed console Greg and team have come up with.

Not sure when I'll be putting mine up for sale as that depends on what I see in the newly designed boat and the new console.
