    Best Setup

Ok guys! I'll make this short and sweet! I am just about at 10hrs and I am ready to start messing with my setup. I am not seeing speeds anywhere close to what other are seeing so I assume it is either me or the setup.
First how do I get an accurate prop to pad measurement?
For guys with the 719's what seems to be your ideal depth? 3.5", 3.25" etc..

Today, I see about 69mph. I feel like I have it trimmed high enough because the bow lift and it feel like it just release from the drag. At that point, I don't trim any higher. Maybe that is my problem. Anyways I want to at least get a measurement to see where I am.
I know I am a heavy load but, I don't think enough to suck up 5-6mph
By the way, I have yet to see any chine!

Since the lakes around here will be an absolute zoo, I am gonna spend some time benchmarking where I am as far as setup and look at options for running an alarm system on the boat! Oh, and trying not to spill my beer in the boat while rummaging through it

    Re: Best Setup (edowell)

If you look on the Yamaha site at the performance bullitins with the SHO. most are fairly high at the 2.5 to 3 in. area. I would start at 3 in below pad and see how it goes.

Remember that weather conditions this time of year reduces hp so you will be a few mph slower (density altitude). Also after it seems like it "breaks free"...bump a little higher...

    Good Luck

P.S. At yesterday's heat of the day, you would have lost 6% hp which is 13 hp loss!

    Re: Best Setup (falcooon)

    Good info Les!
Very good point on temperature change and bumping up past break-free point. I hadn't been doing that. I emailed Jeff earlier in the week and he advised they were trying to send them out close to 3.5" below as a starting point.
I have heard alot of speed numbers but, I don't know if those are straight out of the box or if the have done some tweaking to obtain those results. I will make sure I post any changes and results I get from them.

    Re: Best Setup (secdawgs)

Go ahead and bump it up to FT and see what ya got but it sounds like you are pretty close to where you need to be. My boat gains only in bow lift and chine at FT, no increase in speed. Make sure you use the longest level you have to level the pad while measuring your prop to pad height. A few degrees off will make a big difference on your numbers by the time that plane is extended out to the center of your prop shaft. On my boat, I raised the JP until I lost H20, then lowered it back down in 1/8 increments till my H2O raised back to 15 and I had full prop bite under high speed turns w/out requiring excessive trim down. All done with heavy load so I know I have my best performance while tourney loaded.

Good luck Eric and have fun getting to know your bird!

I cant wait to fiddle with this stuff!

And Eric... Tackle Warehouse has the T&H 2 Ways on sale for $166 shipped through the 30th. These are great little units.. KVD endorses them and they were a hot sale item at the Classic.

    I just ordered one up

I bought Navin-Rs. I like the fact that I can alarm the compartments if I feel up to wiring them.

    Re: Best Setup (edowell)

So I did a check on the factory setup and it is exact 3.5 prop to pad. So, I decided to move it up .25". Holy crap! I really should have invested in the hydraulic j/p! Raising the motor is not as easy I I thought it would be but, I finally got it done and I'll be on the lake by 6:30 to do some test runs before the crazies get out there.

    Re: Best Setup (SilverFox66)

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by SilverFox66 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">My question is how do you level that pad with the boat on the trailer? isnt the roller in the way?</td></tr></table>

The roller is about even with the right angle of the transome/pad and has a gap of about 2in. Most levels will not pass through the gap but can be held against the pad in front of the roller.

You are right Eric, I am no fan of the z-loc plates either!

A smaller torpedo level will work also.

    Re: Best Setup (microsalmo)

So, I bumped it up to3.25" last night and got out there at safe light this morning. Nobody on the lake and i can open it up. I headed across the lake to a creek where I knew i wouldn't have any cross traffic and opened her up.It came up on pad and broke free a little sooner in the trim and I bumped it up just a little and hit 71 before I knew it. It started chining a little and I backed down. A couple more runs results in the same thing so, I called it a morning before the crazies got out there. I'll run this for awhile and fine tune my driving and see if I can squeeze more out of it before I moveit up to 3.00". It definitely has more as I am still low on the rpms @ about 5800...
