    Prop Selection for 719 w/ 225 SHO

I have been reading through alot of post where people have two props, one for warm(hot) weather and one for cool weather. I don't know how applicable this is for the SHO since it has so much torque. I believe that mine will be coming with the ventless 25p. Is that the best overall prop for the rig and is it better suited for the warmer or cooler weather? Does anyone have a suggestion on a second prop?

The issue is "density altitude" which affects all engines. Temperature, humidity and altitude rob horsepower from all engines. Your conditions will determine whether it is an issue or not.

If it is really hot and humid compounded by altitude... You may need to drop down a pitch.

Keep what you have and live with it for a while....if performance gets to be dismal in the summer months and /or it becomes unacceptable, go with a smaller pitch. Either way ...horsepower will be lost.

    Explained very well Less
Eric I am going to start of on my 250 SHO with a Vent less 27 P, then around June or July will see how it is doing. Already has been suggested might have to drop down to a 25P. Sure wish Yamaha made a 26P but as of now they don't have one.
Also me being in S. Central KY where the humidity can get sky high I have always had to have two props on my Mercs. and have been told it will and does affect the SHO. They still are fuel burning air pumps, more water in the air less horse power developed.

25 yamaha ventless other wheels will work great too!! only concern is if you sling a blade on a non yamaha prop and damage the lower while under warranty

Wow! I hadn't thought about that! So, if I am hearing you right, if a non-Yamaha prop causes a failure then it may not be covered under warranty?

I have read that some Skeeter owners with FX's with 250 SHO's have done well with the 26 Fury.

My only concern is that these are four strokes with all the associated parts cams, valves, etc etc.... Don't want to over speed these, even accidentally, as in popping out of the water from a wake or something.

Not sure you want to red line the SHO.! However, I have not read of any over speed issues affecting the engine...just my caution with a $20k+ motor!!!

Not so sure about the warranty issue and it is a good question! Maybe one of the dealers here can get an answer from Yamaha on this one!

Personally, I think a lot of engineering went into the SHO and their ventless props so I will stick with the Yammy. They are a nice looking prop!

So for my 250, I will stick with the 27 ventless. For those with a lot of gear, twin power poles, hydraulic jack plates, all big batteries, and a jumbo fishing partner...the 25 should do the trick.

For the 225 and 200 SHO's the 25 for the norm and the 23 for the heavy's!

If you are very light (as in totally empty and little fuel) and racing, there is a 29 and all bets are off!

So dealers out there.... What about the warranty and the use of a non Yamaha prop???

Re: Prop Selection for 719 w/ 225 SHO (falcooon)

We are a dealer for all three motor brands and I was told by our yamaha rep that if a non yamaha prop slings a blade and damages lower that yamaha would deny warranty claim on it

    Jr,
I guess you are not hearing the same thing from the other two?

Thanks nightbasser for your reply. It's great that dealers like you frequent these boards.

    We appreciate it!

I am not surprised and I am sure that the other manufacturers are the same..... I would think that no mfg would warranty their engine from a failure of another mfg's product.

I also have been told the same thing by a dealer near me(that does not sell Phoenix) but does sell Merc., Yamaha, Honda, Rudes. NOT to use anything other than Yamaha wheels or you risk no warranty if a Merc, etc. prop throws a blade and damages the motor. Where as if using a Yamaha prop it will be covered.
Even tho they might being getting better performance out of a Tempest or Trophy I am not about to take chances with my expensive motor and its 5 yr. warranty!!!

Really surprised Yamaha hasn't come out with a 26. I'm 100 percent Merc, but have seen nothing negative about the Yamaha line, especially SHO's. Hopefully they will remedy this. Until then, maybe I can run past one or two!
