    Minn Kota Maxxum

Anyone that is ordering a new rig and is not to fond of the Fortrex US2, the Maxxum is still being made...BUT no US2.
Cabela's has them as well as Tackle Warehouse. If they are out just type Minn Kota Maxxum 101 in Google search and start looking.
As of right now Phoenix does not have a source for the Maxxum (what I was told by Jr. today) so you will have to order it and then get it to Phoenix. Or have your dealer install it, dealer also may be able to get them.

    Re: Minn Kota Maxxum (EdDavisKY)

Having had both trolling motors in the 36v size I am 100% certain that I would buy a Fortrexx. It's super quiet, lighter, and a much simpler/stable design.

Nothing against the Maxxum as it ran great for me overall, just like the Fortrexx better.

Want to really go nuts? Check out the Lithium Ion batteries that Derek Yamamoto is putting on his rig.

Can you say 12 pounds per battery vs 80? Holy crap!!

Ya and probably 8 grand per battery I have a 18 V. cordless drill with Lithium Ion batteries, only thing I do not like about them there is NO warning when getting low........running fine; then dead, but they do charge up fast. Wonder what kind of charger is using?

The standard trolling motor on the 719 is the Fortrex. So are they coming with the US2 'ducer? If so, are there being problems reported? I have never looked into it. I guess research time!

    Re: Minn Kota Maxxum (edowell)

The fortrex comes either way US2 or without. The 719 and 721 is standard packaged with a 80 fortrex WITHOUT US2, but it can be upgraded to the Sonar model for an additional cost.
For what it is worth we have seen very little if any trouble out of the universal sonar models and have sold lots over the years.

I have it on mine (US2 linked to my HDS7) and I have zero problems to report other than the fish are not under my boat often enough!

My neighbor has a Maxxum with US2 and has had to send it in twice to get it fixed. But the guy is retired and fishes almost every day, so it gets used heavily.

Personally I'd rather have a transducer mounted to the motor. If it breaks, it wouldn't be a big deal to fix it.

    Re: Minn Kota Maxxum (edowell)

the problems are the interference caused by the US2 units with the depthfinders. I love minn kota but I have done research on this issue, as I have this problem with my setup, and there are a lot of these cases out there. It is not an isolated problem, just consider yourself lucky if you get one that works probably. If I would have known these problems when I ordered I would NOT hae gotten the US2 option.

    Re: Minn Kota Maxxum (clm6741)

What brand of electronics are you using? I wonder if it's something that can be isolated by brand of electronics; such as HB or Lowrance, etc. On my last rig, I had Lowrance LMS 332c on it with a U2 and never had a problem with it.

On other rigs that I mounted a transducer onto the troller motor; I could count on a minimum of twice a year to replace the transducer. At anywhere from 50-69.00 ea; I think the U2 is money well spent.

    Re: Minn Kota Maxxum (nikldac)

Im using Humminbird, but I have heard of hte same type problems with Lowrances hooked to the US2 but not as often. I am pretty sure it is a US2 problem and not Humminbird. But it is not in every unit, it seems that the interference issues are just random with no reason behind any of it. Im guessing during the assembly of the TM that something was not exact or some situation like that therefore not grounding properly.

It is my understanding that once the interfernce issue is fixed (if your lucky enough to get it fixed) the n the US2 is real nice to have. I like the idea of it but just hope I gt my interfernce problems fixed. Humminbird shipped the T choke yesterday so when it gets here im gonna try it and seewhat happens. It is sad that we have to deal with this problem with brand new equipment but that is what owning boats is all about. It never fails.

When dealing with electronics for boats seems to always be some kind of a problem ESPECIALLY sense Lowrance started their assembly in Mexico, one reason I went with HB this time around, they are still made in the USA.

But as my dad told me when I got back into boating/fishing from a boat (not fly fishing)..... Just remember a boat is nothing but a hole in the water you keep throwing money in Guess I should have lessoned .....NOT.
