    Structure Scan Transducer Mounting question

Hey guys, I've got a structure scan unit on the way and was wondering what my best option is going to be for mounting the transducer. There's a 19" step at the transom/pads on my 898 and I'm wondering if I can just mount it there (to the step on the hull) without using some sort of mounting plate? I know a lot of guys have had interference with their jack plates, so I'm trying to avoid that if possible.

I mounted mine using the provided bracket to the step on my Z-8 below the jack plate. I used the bracket because it is very strong and I only needed to drill 2 holes in the boat to mount it. Every boat is different but you want to mount it so there is the least amount of obstruction to the sides for a clear image.

I mounted mine directly to the step with 6 screws. Works fine, just make sure its centered and straight. Also make sure you seal the holes before you screw it in. Be careful not to break screws off either! I did

Yes, pictures would be nice. I'd like to mount it to the step, but my step has a very, very slight "V" shape. Do you think this will be a problem?

Here are some pics of my 482. Keep in mind you will lose structure scan as soon as your on plane. No big deal, I just swap to sonar. You also need to make sure it is mounted level when your in the water. my boat sits pretty level and worked out fine.
I just seen you said "V" shaped. You may want to take some pics and post them in the lowrance section and get some opinions.....

    Hope this helps !!

How thick is the step on the Nitro's, I'm going to mount my DSI transducer using a TS-DSI mount and a 1" wedge?

Im not sure. I paid a marina to install mine.
I would still be standing there with a drill, too chicken to put holes in my boat

Now that right there is funny...... But then again, so would I......
As long as they sealed the holes well, should be an issue and it looks great.

Some boat owners, if they understand the consequence and have read their boat warranty, or even think about it, will ask their "installers" for a written liability agreement. Most will promptly decide not to install it when asked to produce it.
