Z7 HDS-7 Structure scan set up?

I will be installing an HDS 7 gen2 at the console, with structure scan trans mounted at the transom here soon. That is when I get my boat back from factory work being done.

Anyone have this set-up? Looking for where the LSS-1 was mounted in the boat and how the structure scan transducer was mounted. Pictures would be great

    Thanks for any help

My HDS-8 is in the dash, the LSS-1 box is on the back wall of the drivers side rod locker. I did have to move the fire extinguisher a little bit to get it to go there, but that's where it fit the best. I mounted it up off the bottom in case any water gets in the compartment. Do you have a jackplate? My LSS transducer is mounted with a Transducer Shield and Saver bracket from Scap. Its mounted to the side of my 6" Bobs Jackplate. You will also need a wedge to get it to sit level. Works great, no interference at all. It wouldn't fit on the bottom of my 6" jackplate, but if I had a plate big enough for it I would have just mounted it to the bottom of the plate.

If you don't have a jackplate I would mount it so it sits in about the same position.

I think their clear, but I don't profess to be an expert. Here are a couple of screen shots from day one, before I even adjusted anything.

Ball of bait fish with predator fish on both sides just off the bottom.

Predator fish move in from the bottom of the bait ball. Half of the bait fish explode upwards and the other half make a run for it to the sides.

Random screenshot showing some trees and fish.

The photos of my transducer may a little deceptive on its location. The blue tape represents the surface across the bottom of both sponsons.

The bottom of the jackplate is 1/4" above that line (without holeshot plate). With the bracket and wedge in place it puts the transducer below the line of the sponsons, something that I was told is important if you are going to get a clear image out to the sides. The setup also puts the transducer out of the way with the engine trimmed all the way down or turned towards the transducer. No matter where the engine is I never get any interference. Another thing I have read is that if you have a jackplate, you most likely will have to have a holeshot plate or you will get interference.

Another shot of transducer and bracket.

It will even pick up a line of buoys, off to the side of the boat.

Probably more info than anyone wanted. Do these screen shots compare to what everyone else is getting with their setups?

To answer a question: I have a 6" Rite Hite jackplate.

GRR884: Having trouble telling how you mounted the transducer. Did you use the bracket it came with? It looks to be mounted under the step next to the V cut? Thanks for the picture of the box mounted in the rod box

Yes, no bracket used. Mounted directly under that part of the hull that sticks out.

Guess I am going to go that route with the transducer shield saver.

Thoswe shots are sweet. I have a question on the last pictire though. What is that taking a picture of? According to the graph, what I assume is the wire and bouys, say they are 20 ft under the water. Am I reading that incorrectly?

I knew when I posted those two photos some one would ask that question. A couple of years ago when I took those screenshots, I didn't understand them either. Not just the depth, but why does the line of buoys show up on the left and right side of the HDS when they were only on the right side of the boat. I emailed the photos to a couple of very experienced HDS guys in the Lowrance forum and I got a very complicated technical explanation. I didn't understand it then, let alone two years later, sorry.

It's not going to work anywhere if you're on plane.

Structurescan only works at speeds less than 5MPH

    There web site says

    Sidescan Specifications:
    Max Range: 455kHz (500ft — 250 per side) 800kHz (300ft —150 per side)
Max Speed: 35 mph (56 kmh)
Mark objects: 15 mph (24 kmh)
Optimum speed: 10 mph (16 kmh) or less

    Downscan Specifications:
    Max Depth: 100 ft (800kHz); 300 ft (455kHz)
Max Speed: 55 mph (88 kmh)
Mark objects: 35 mph (56 kmh)
Optimum speed: 10 mph (16 kmh) or less

I know I go faster than 5 and still get good pics.

I have been to 8 and still have a good picture but I'm throwing some major barge wakes at that speed, so I will idle to scan and watch my X27 for on plane running.
