    Dont quit fishing all together. Imagine what you have spent on tackle/stuff. Once you let stuff go for pennies on the dollar you will be upset when its time to replace everything. Theres always saving for a rebuild or buying a used/ rebuild.

    I'm really thinking of getting rid of boat altogether... still have a big loan on her and cant really afford to save up on new or use motor... plus when the boss (wife) finds out about it when i tell her ill be sleeping on the couch for weeks.... still deciding, might go bowling.... become a jason belmonte instead of kvd... who knows... im really down now and the wife dont know yet.. ill let yall know what outcome is when the boss finds out and i take it in tomorrow.

    Yeah, let's not overreact just yet. Find out whatsa wrong first and how bad, then make decision on what goes, boss or boat.

    Man that sucks hangman. The last thing you ever want to hear is that your motor blew up....I wish you luck with the boss and I hope that you find a way to stay in the G and get her fixed....Good luck.

    well just took boat to a mechanic and he rechecked compression and 4 was 120 and 2 on the bottom across from each other was 0... he said probably need new power head or rebuild... said it cost money to tear it apart to find out how bad it is and i dont really want to pay him to tell me how bad it is to rebuild it or install new powerhead. So should i just sell the blown motor and store the boat and save up for repower or just sell whole boat to try to get at least some money for the personal loan i have for it.... plus boss told me if it cost too much to fix to just get rid of it and try to pay the some of the loan off. Question how much can i get off of this motor and control? How much for boat and blown motor together? idk what to do, just feel like keeping just the boat but then getting rid of it altogether.....alskdjl;askdf;lqaj.. any opinion would help... thanks gamblers for the help

    plus he said it could be bad fuel system or bad injector that could have cause it but he has to hook it up to labtop to find out and start the tear down on how bad the motor is and that would start the labor cost. smh, so i just told him i'll think on it because of my wallet as of right now.

    Sounds like you really love that boat! Do you anything else that you could sell to raise money for the repair? You can repower for well under 10 grand with a late model engine.:

    i do love the boat because my first boat and really a momento from decease mother. really have nothing to sell thats not worth in my own opinion but a detwiler manual jp and my old l2 gearcase .58 ratio that is disassemble. chsapeak refer me to a rebuilder and waiting on him for a estimate. i'll wait on that then go from there. thanks fellow gamblers

    I would hang on to it for now. It is amazing how fast you can save money when you set a goal to buy something. I would be willing to bet if you started saving you could have enough saved to be up and running in less than a year from now.

    for now, just try to hang in there a couple months. I am a Mercury man all the way but for your 'rude there are options.
    When selling automotive work, sometimes I offer Good...Better...Best options. The same applies here:

    GOOD

    * an older used motor. This will get you back on the water. An older Johnson/Evinrude will run you $3500 to $6000 for a decent older used 225 motor.

    * A used drop on power head. Generally between $3000 - $6000 depending on what it is.

    BETTER

    * A newer used motor. You should be able to find a motor with a few hundred hours on it for $5000-$9000 that is 225hp+ to bolt right on.

    * Rebuild yours. I would think (not knowing 'rudes like I do Mercs) your would be $5000-$7500 for rebuild which definitely needs to include cleaning the fuel injectors and go through entire fuel system).

    BEST

    * Quality Reman powerhead - $10,000+

    * Low hour used still under warranty - $12,000+

    * New - $17,000+

    Getting used - the key is to have it checked out best you can. Comp check is a must, LU fluid check, get the injectors cleaned right away. Try to get a history if possible.
