recess trolling motor mount for Intimidator

Looking at the troll well recess for my 95 intimidator. Troll Well is a board sponsor and I really like the idea of a fiberglass to match my boat, have any of you installed one and what did you use to cut the hole, and is there anything I need to be aware of before I start this project? Thanks

Re: recess trolling motor mount for Intimidator (silverspook)

I put in different one but it's the same idea. My 95 was an easy install...both times

Measured and measured so I was sure it was centered. I think I was 5 inches back from the TM plug plate. I used the supplied template and marked out the cut out area. I used and exacto utlility knife and cut out the carpet. I drilled a 1/2 inch hole at each corner. I then used an electric jig saw. I tried a sawzall but it was not as effective. About 1/2 way up the long edge I ran into a snag. There is a support going across that is about 2 inches thick. At this point, I was at a point of no return so I continued. The tray went in easy and the support from the tray was sufficient enough that I was no longer worried about it. I used it for about 3 weeks and then it rained one night. I went out and the pedal was in a tray of water. I ended up trimming the tray drain plug and it worked fine. I guess it was too long and it crimped against the hull preventing water from flowing.
Go for it...Your back will thank you!!!

It was basically a 1X2 or 1X3 laminated fiberglass. I want to say it was a comfort troll. It's been a while since I put it in. It a black plastic tray and it still holding up.

How far back from the front panel would you suggest I should I start the hole?

Be sure to run a drain hose so the water does not go into the forward tackle storage. 3-Liter

I "think" I was about 5 inches from the TM plate. It's been a while but for some reason, I think that is about right. Someone asked me a while back and I posted the actual number. I'll need to run to the boat and check but it won't be today.

Jigsaw works better IMO. I have a trollwell in my boat and the custom flake match looks really sharp.

Re: recess trolling motor mount for Intimidator (silverspook)

Well I may have saved myself a bunch of money for the time being. I have really been looking for a new trolling motor and the revues on both the Minn Kota and the motor guide were not all good. When you are thinking about spending a grand on a piece of equipment I really think the revues should be out standing.
Today I was out in the shop and there was an old motor guide bruit that came on a ranger boat I had before the Gambler. It was in pretty bad shape so I replaced it and fixed some of the problems to use as a spare. I forgot all about it until this morning.
I spent the morning working on it and switched it out with the one on the boat and I think it is going to work. It is a 95 model so it is the same year as the boat and it looks pretty good. I'm still going to put a recess in so if the trolling motor last for a while it will be a savings.

It worked so I'm ok for a while. I received the recess from ezy troll and it was damaged, one of the corners was bent and the weld was broken. I wasn't too pleased with the drain on that brand it just didn't look big enough so I am sending it back and will look at other brands Now i'm looking at the comfor troll and the troll well. They are both on the bbc.

Been there...Done that. I sat there with the drill in my hand for 45 minutes and my friend grabbed the drill out of my hand and said he'd do it. I took it back and took a deep breathe and the rest is history.
