    Seahorse, etec oil question...

Buying a new 225 etec HO and had a question about XD50 vs. XD100.

Has there been any data on powerhead failure between the 2 oils? The reason I ask is it seems more oil to the engine with the XD50 may outweigh the advantages of the XD100.

I see no reason to choose 50 over 100, 100 is a better oil for many reasons, if you are concerned about how much oil the motor is receiving have your dealer set the EMM to TCWIII and run the XD-100.

    Hey Rusty,

My engines (2006 60hp Etecs) came with a little slip of paper from Evinrude saying that if I was using them for commercial fishing to only use XD-50 oil....

now, either they are saying XD50 is a better oil if you are putting thousands of hours on the boat (I put on about 1500 a year) or....they don't trust commercial fishermen to always put in XD100 once it is programmed for that...

    what do you think?

Export motors sold outside of the USA have different warranties and policies. Since the rest of the world does not have authorized dealers in close by towns like in the US, and the motors are probably used and abused more than a recreational boater, my opinion is that TC-W3 oil is easier to obtain than the XD-100. If someone uses TC-W3 continuously while the motor is set up for XD-100, there will be more engine wear and possible problems due to the differences in lubricity and anti-wear properties.

So I guess there is no reason for me not to use it then as long as I can get it supplied through my local dealer. It's just the cost that is the problem!!!
