    Removing boat from trailer

I have to remove my Gambler from the trailer in order to sandblast and repaint the trailer. The motor is being overhaulded so unloading at the lake is not an option for me. I need ideas on how to remove the boat from the trailer without damage to the boat. I have plenty of large trees to tie the boat off too and pull the trailer out from under it but, what could I put under the G boat to protect it?

well i think you are thinking of tieing up to a tree and pulling the trailer out from it and it can be done but you should find large blocks of foam to rest the boat on as you pull the trailer out it also help to raise the boat off the trailer a little i used two floor jacks and raised the rear end up and pulled the trailer half way out then lowered the back of the boat onto foam blocks the raised the front of the boat off the traler and pulled trailer away then lowered the front of the boat onto foam blocks got the used foam from a dock building company they had some old pieces around from some old docks the had put new foam under

Re: Removing boat from trailer (gambler209)

GAMBLER209, I have removed 4 boats off trailers using that method, but instead of foam I used jack stands at the corners of transom, and one under front part of keel, that is usually strongest points of boats. Once you have done it you can usually remove a boat off of a trailer in about 15 minutes.

We do the same thing at shows except we use fiberglass boxes covered with carpet, so I would think wood is fine covered in carpet. Also if you need to stabilize it use multiple folds of carpet and stuff it under one side or the other.

We used an engine lift and come along to lift the boat off the trailer with my aluminum BassTracker, but I wouldn't recommend that for the Gambler. If it was me, I'd find a marina and rent a bay for a week or whatever; float it off. Good luck with it, m
