Talk to me about your Ram Mount

I'm still undecided about where to mount my 997 and want to hear from some of ya'll that have a Ram mount on the left side of the driver's console. Any issues with vibration, too flimsy, how did you fasten it, do you like it, etc. I bought the mount but now I'm not sure if that's what I want to use. Thanks.

Re: Talk to me about your Ram Mount (rovngmblr)

Hello, I have a mount attached to the grab rail on the right side with an 898sci on the bracket. It held a 520c perfect but the Hbird is bigger so I made a small kickstand for it and it works perfect even in rough water. I only wish they made a smaller rail mount. I think the one I have was for a 3/4-1" rail, the smallest one they had and had to wrap some hose around the rail to fill the space and make it tighter. There are a few good machinists on here that coud probably modify the rail mount with an aluminum spacer to give it a cleaner look. I will try and get a pic tonight. I have been using Lowrance from day 1, and switched to Hbirds this season from a state team deal. They are awesome units.

I don't mind at all CG, glad you chimed in. I have the 109VU like fatbasser had on his boat that mounts on the left outside of the driver's console and has 2 pivot points. He claimed to really like it but I'ld just like to hear some more opinions before I start drilling holes in the side of the console . If anyone has any pros or cons I'ld love to hear 'em.

Is that under the upholstered panel? Course he had a newer boat. Mine's an 02 2100 and I want to be dang sure that's where I want it before I start drilling.

i mounted my 997 in the corner of the dash on an angle. my guy made a plate out of starboard(black) and then the bracket goeson it. You cant see the trim gauge but you shouldnt need it anyway. It is solid and sure beats drillin into the glass he also did a cut out on the spray plate on the lack plate so the transducer is mounted out of the way and wont get broken

Decided to go with the swing mount, just wasn't many places i could put it. Has to be where mama can see it. Look behind the mount and you will see a teflon wedge i had to make to level the unit. Cord is not long enough for me to tuck the wires behind the mount, six more inches away and i would be looking for a ducer extension cable. Just gonna have to work there but it is where i can see it from anywhere in the boat. Also put a s/s plate behind it to stiffen the fiberglass. If these work as good as they claim i think this one will go up front and big brother will take this spot.
