    Maszco HP4

Has anyone ever ran one of these on their rig before? If so how did it perform?

    Re: Maszco HP4 (ThunderCat)

i have a Mazco HP4 25p and it has good hole shot on my 96 209 with a 300 3.2 merc. and very reasonable top end speed. Mr. Mazco has been good to deal with and will do what he can to help you.

    Re: Maszco HP4 (ThunderCat)

I run a hp4 25p in warm weather and a 27p hp4 in cold I have a 1994 200 yamaha on a 209 te I did have john add a little more cup to both props I have a hydro tec phase 2 kit on my motor and a fixed 10in jack plate with the motor and jack plate set as high as it will go even with a big load and livewells full it will get up in about 7 seconds I feel this is good considering I have a carberated motor by the way the extra cup did help me pick the bow up and run alittle faster on top end I ussually always have a heavy load of gear and two fat anglers

    Re: Maszco HP4 (gambler209)

What kind of speed are you runnin with that Hammer. I have a similar set up on an intimidator I have put everything on it that hydrotec makes and pushin 270 hp on the dyno with my little 2.6. I run a 27 tempest 6100 rpm 78 mph medium loaded. My hole shot is not good to me and I was wondering if it would be better with the mazco also?

    Re: Maszco HP4 (NDN-O)

Thunder, the Gambler guys down here in Hampton Roads have always been fans of the Mazco HP's. Seems to be a really good match. The last time I was at Murphy's Prop Shop in Norfolk, they had a used (but looked brand new) HP-4 for a pretty decent price. Murphy's ph (757) 853-4731.

Tyler is gonna run a 27 Bravo1 tomorrow, I realize its too small of pitch but just want to give him an idea of what a Bravo will do.

    Re: Maszco HP4 (gamblerjewell)

the hp4 has a slightly smaller tube for the exhaust gasses to go over an through the tube or hub as some call it this lets the prop loosen up so you canspin a little easier at take off also having the motor and jack plate raised as high as i can get it is helping it still is 4 inches below the pad though i have blocked off the top off my water intake so it wont ingest air and can run wide open at 12psi water pressure 6100 rpms with the 27p at 76 on gps with a heavy load the key is getting the tip cup in the prop to pick the bow up also i have installed sea star pro hydrolic steering two years ago makes ti easier on the arms for those real long runs i hope to be able to buy the new sterling in 2011 then i willstart all over agian with set up but i still plan to start with an hp4 again

    Re: Maszco HP4 (ThunderCat)

The Bravo I ran on that boat had unworked blades and I could even climb out the hole before I had the PVS holes drilled in it. Not that it matters to me and you can try all the props you want, But from what you have told me is you want a good all around prop that drives well and can carry a load. The Bravo on that boat loaded to the gills with a full tank of fuel and every piece of fishing equipment I owned (because I was going to prove that it wasnt as good of a prop as what guys were claiming) Ran fast and true. It ran this in about a mile and a half stretch of lake.

    Re: Maszco HP4 (ThunderCat)

I ran it without the holes when I first got it to see if I wanted any blade work done so I wouldn't have to ship it twice. The point I was making is that because of your boat motor combo it has a lot of low end torque to climb out even without relief holes drilled albeit slowly.

    Re: Maszco HP4 (21XDC)

It is going to be very hard to beat a Modded Bravo or a Hydro SST for a Gambler. The props might not be the very fastest prop o nthe boat but they will be the best all around prop you will find as far as holeshot, cruising, rough water, turning, acceleration.... It is all a compromise in the end....
