I'am thinking about a new motor purchase for this rig it has a 1995 200 EFI Merc its starting to turn into a money pit. Has been a great motor but think its time for a new one. My question is will this transom hold a 225 Pro XS the hp rating plate is 200 on the boat. I know about possible insurance problems that could arise. What do you guys think ?????? Anyone out there running a rig like this. It should fly!!!!
stay with a 2.5 block...and the 200...it isnt worth the insurance hassel anymore...the 3.0 liter motors are much heavier....and cause a bucnch of other problems...

Years back, we had to increase the hp by 7 1/2 to gain 1 mph. If this is still true you wont gain but three mph, not worth it with insurance and the water patrol and if you were to hurt someone else in a accident, it wont be pretty. I know a lot of people do it and get away with it but like stated above with LD it's just not worth it.
Stick with the 200EFI. With the right setup you can still run mid to upper 70's
To answer your question yes the transom will hold up just fine if you choose to go with a bigger engine.
Guys thank you for the feed back on the motor upgrade. But i have a chance to purchase a 2007 PROXS 225 with new 5 year warranty cheaper than i can buy a 200 EFI !!!!!!!!! Do not fish any BASS or Federation Tournaments just recreational fisherman.
