It's a shame but my wireless router will not let me connect to hi-speed net, and my guru hasn't figured it out yet. I tried the link and it's like snap shots. Would really like to see a 250HO. I'll read tomorrow, Iknow you will have some good comments. G.

Re: ROUEN 24 hour MARATHON: Dont Miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (johnrude)

Its a SAD day for ME. The E-Tecs had it all. Fabulous powerhead, completely stock. Went like a rocket. Video's of drag racing saw the E-Tec win everytime. Great dedicated & highly experienced teams.

The let down were the old OMC race gearcases.
Couldn't hold the brute power of the E-Tec. I think it was the pinion gear. The pinion was the weak link in three very very strong powerheads.
The gearcase was NOT manufactured by BRP. As yet BRP do not have a racing gearcase designed for marathon racing. I do hope that it will come SOON.

There were 400,000 people at Rouen for this classic event. It IS "THE" PREMIER inshore racing marathon event of the world powerboat racing circuit. It does deserve prime support from BRP because the spin off IS MORE SALES & making customers even more proud of what they own. I do believe BRP will come up with the answers for this small race niche in the market.
Overall I am a very proud man to be associated in a small way with EVINRUDE & JOHNSON & will always be indebted to BRP for stepping in & saving it from oblivion. They have created the most amazing & technological advanced outboard that has ever existed. Thankyou

Re: ROUEN 24 hour MARATHON: Dont Miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (johnrude)

Yea, they won every drag race (right). The E-tec lost. I guess those merc teams (none of them factory) had there chit together. How could they have such a pitiful showing with the Manufactorer backing them up? Just to much power for the lower unit. This is not some sort of new alien technology that makes 3 times as much torque as a competitors motor. You would think that after all these years they would be smart enough to use a merc lower, see'in's how they have NEVER been able to build one.........lol You guy's are a trip, I seem to remmeber merc dominating the race scene for quit some time now. Other than the V-8 you JohnRudes have gotten smoked more than not.

Don't know why so many Merc guys are quick to get down on Evinrude. Merc has dominated the racing scene for eons.

    So what?

I run a 1900lb lead sled and personally I don't care if a short shaft merc can turn 8 grand till the sun goes down, at least until I get that tunnel hull I've always wanted (yeah right )

I do care if an outboard can get out of the hole, give me decent top end, and above all be reliable. I'll pass on the pissing contest.

I think as a community, bassboat owners should want as many good outboards products out there as possible. Competition is good for the consumer. So I think the Merc guys should root for BRP. When the 250 HO does make production, my next rig may be sporting some blue bling for the first time.

Re: ROUEN 24 hour MARATHON: Dont Miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (cast1)

    cast1,
Racing technology trickles down to the fishing motors. Even though I think Merc is better racing or fishing motor's thats just my opinion. Now that BRP is stepping into the racing, That will benifit their fishing motors evetually. So them racing losing or winning will pay off. I'll bet their working on some better lower units right now. What ever they come up with will work its way to the fishing motors. So, you should care about those short shaft screaming demons cause you could evetually see some of that technology on you rude before its over.

Re: ROUEN 24 hour MARATHON: Dont Miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (K-DAWG)

Yes I agree. BRP just don't have the complete package 'YET' for Rouen. The E-Tec powerhead is an absolute WINNER. That 250 HO sound is so Hot & SMOOTH. Sounds like a RACECAR as it decelarates into turns. AMAZING. Everything else sounds like bolts rattling in a tin can BUT not that E-Tec.
The OLD OMC gearcases that they have been useing has not been reliable because AFTERMARKET (not OMC) gears & probably prop shafts had to be used at Rouen. I believe there are NO OMC genuine parts available. I do hope that BRP help out by at least manufacturing mint quality relacement parts for these very efficient cases.
My experience is that potental customers are significantly influenced by positive RACING results. If BRP manufacture a totally reliable racing package it will pay off big time at the cash register. If you look at my site below you will see that the MOST hits are received by the categories. VINTAGE & V8, V6, V4 Racing, Rouen & then E-Tec. CUSTOMERS are 'turned on' by both performance, reliability & customer service. BRP should make Rouen a priority as it is the PREMIER boat racing marathon in the world.

Ir regard to the fishing engines. When BRP release them, they will be an immediate success. Of that I am sure.

Re: ROUEN 24 hour MARATHON: Dont Miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (K-DAWG)

I'm not down on Merc, or anyone for liking them. Mercury is actually all I've ever owned, and I'm sure I'll own more of them. I just hate to see people saying "yeah I told you so" when it seems like a company is really putting forth a good effort.

My point is, I feel that merc and yammie owners should be pulling for BRP and not thrashing them for trying. Any of us might find a good deal on a used boat somewhere down the line and it would be great if we didn't have to say, "it's real nice except for that *&^*(*&(*(& evinrude hangin' off the back".

Everbody deserves a good motor, unless you drive a runabout, in which case you deserve a slow and painful death.

Would also like to say sorry if I came off hash earlier, but do you see what I'm gettin' at?

Re: ROUEN 24 hour MARATHON: Dont Miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (cast1)

    cast1,
You are just stating your opinion, thats what the forums are for. Just thought I would point out the benefits of racing to ya. You know this Merc, OMC and Yammie deal's like Chevy, Ford and Mopar. I don't turn wrenches on them neither does most of these other people on this board we just like to talk smack. I am sure there a people who have had really good motors from certain manufactorers. There are those who have had lemons. Merc is so far ahead in the racing buisness that it will take a company that is comitted like BRP to catch them. The overwhelming majority of the racing scene run Merc. They are like the Chevrolets of the boat motor world. They have so much interchangable stuff you would almost be crazy to run anything else. Then their are people like our friend Liquid Nirvana who will die a fan of OMC, BRP no matter what. As for myself I personally don't think BRP will turn many Merc guy's or ever dominate them but, thats just my 2 cent's.

If this is true, could you please explain to me how the motor is homologateded.

UIM rules state that the homologated motor MUST be a complete production unit, with the manufacturer commited to building 25 units per year.

Re: ROUEN 24 hour MARATHON: Dont Miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (XStech)

I have seen this question before. All I can say is that I believe the Gearcases were originally from the V8 Johnson Evinrude Race engines from the 80's & 90's. BRP purchased OMC the manufacturers of Evinrude & Johnson race engines. The UIM HAVE homologated the E-Tec engines & also 3.0 litre Johnson that has raced Rouen with some success for many years . The politics of this I have not delved into. You will have to take it up with the UIM. They are the ultimate judges in these matters. I am but a mere mortal. All I know is that finally there is the rudimentary beginnings of some serious challenge to Mercury after a lapse of around 15 years or so. The Mercury Outboard Race engines are truly incredible & it is & will be great to see them up against this really serious challenge. All I hope is that BRP step up to this challenge & support the private teams that have been so faithfull for so many years. If so I believe Rouen 2008 will be one great race.
