    Switching from XD-25 to XD-100 on a 2001 225?

I'm in the process of buying a new-to-me boat with a 2001 Evinrude 225 Ficht on the back. (clean engine report, and good amount of hours, hauls a$$ and a great price too!)
    -
The current owner runs XD-25 in it, and I've always run XD-100..............even in my 86 XP150 and LOVE it!
    -
I've got a few gallons of XD-100 leftover; and want to run the XD-100 through it when I take possession. The oil reservoir is about half full of XD-25. My thoughts were to top the tank off with XD-100, and as I use what's in the tank; keep topping off with XD-100 for a gradual changeover.

Anyone have any reason why I should not do it this way?
    -
(I thought the above method might be better, vs. draining the oil reservoir and going straight XD-100 all of a sudden)

I've had people tell me to run XD100 in my ficht for a while. While I've NEVER used XD25, as I use XD50, I think you will be fine. On a side note, RUN as fast as you can from that ficht. nothing but garbage. Mine has been out of commission for basically 2 summers now since I've had it.

Sorry to hear about your trouble MA.:-(......that sucks.......but I'm actually not even paying for the engine. The sale is based on the price of the boat/trailer/electronics only.......so even if the engine hits the skids.......I won't technically be out anything. Just the time it takes to find a replacement engine.......so I'm gonna roll the dice.

The past couple months I've done TONS of research on the ficht; so I know what I'm in for.(fingers crossed:-)

You can mix the Rude oils. I usually advocate running the tank a little low, then fill up....but they will mix fine.

Not necessarily true. All depends on whether the engine got all the proper updates and was properly maintained. Ficht has always gotten a bad rap due to the failures a OMC at the time. The failure was not in the technology. It was and is sound. The etecs of today are nothing more than a more sophisticated version of the original Ficht. BRP knew that they had to change the name of the Technology in order to save the Evinrude brand.

Certainly the failing business at OMC at the time deserves some of the blame, but as far as I am concerned, most of the blame for all of the modern engine issues we have today (including Ficht) is due to the ridiculous regulations that they require of all outboard makers. Makes me mad every time I think about it.

Thanks for the input Steve!I've had quite a few people here (and elsewhere) contact me behind the scenes, saying the same thing you did. Not to believe all the bad press about the Ficht.

I agree about the regulations too; it's ridiculous. Engines used by the general public, all day everyday; fine. But, most outboards (and other types of engines) that aren't used on a daily basis; regulations should be loosened up in these circumstances.

I was just speaking from my personal experience. I have had the boat/motor for 6 years and it has spent more time in the shop than on the water. Although, I'm starting to believe it might be more the techs fault after I disassembled this engine and saw some frightening things. You would think as a BRP tech they would know what they are doing, but apparently they are just morons. (just this one shop)

I''ve said it so many times on here I can't count....The tech that rigs a ficht engine the first time, and a good tech will stay on top of those, engines and they will run great. But when you encounter that tech that don't care or believes all the hype, then you need to run. With that said, SeaHorse says buy 02 or newer, and i don't know a tech with anymore knowlege......JMHO
