    Cobra 201D battery compartment (help)

My passenger side battery compartment is getting weak. I was wondering of anyone else has this problem? It looks like to that the compartment is made from fiberglass and foam under it. There's no reinforcement such as wood??? I can't keep my battery trays from from coming undone, the screws are eating up the compartment. Any help??? Thanks

Re: Cobra 201D battery compartment (DD22)

I am about to rework my battery compartment. I would lay down a few pieces of fiberglass cloth to reinforce the compartment. I am going to gel mine and clean up the wiring.

I'm gonna do mine tomorrow. I plan putting down 3-4 layers. After it dries I will set anchors fort battery tray and put some epoxy on the bottom of the trays them screw them down

Re: Cobra 201D battery compartment (DD22)

My 201 has 3/8 plywood with 1 layer of cloth and epoxy paint on it. The problem I had was the plugs they put in to plug the holes they had drilled to inject the foam in that area came out and fell down on top of the foam. One of the screws to hold my starting battery down was drilled in that hole. Needless to say as the battery vibrated and bounced the hole got bigger. Then to make matters worse the drain holes they drilled under the battery compartment lid drained directly down onto the battery deck. Guess where the water went? Down into the foam area under the battery deck . From there it started to rot the wood from the bottom side and eventually it leeched into the bottom of my transom brace and rotted it out. I will have to replace that transom brace. That problem would have never occured if they had just drilled the drain holes to where they would drain into the bilge area. The only thing that saved my bacon was the fact that the stringers in that area were totally glassed in so they are in good shape. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Re: Cobra 201D battery compartment (moldman)

I was wondering how does people have their battery's mounted side by side against the live well wall or side by side from front of compartment to the back of the compartment ?
