    Question for Backlash, AR

Hey Buddy, got a question~~I'm about finished with all the cosmetic stuff on my 190D. I've only ran it one time, the day I bought it, it don't have a GPS yet so I don't know its WOT. I'm running a 99 Merc. 150 EFI with a 23p Tempest plus 3 blade, with no jackplate. I've already had my buddy at Steves Custom Props do a B&B job on the prop {kinda a trade out on harley parts} My question is , with hydrallic steering I'm thinking about adding a 8" jackplate, if I do will I need to change props? What should WOT be with my setup? It is plenty quick OTH.

I have the same boat but with a 200 EFI w/23p Tempest. All I can get is 67 out of her.

    Johnny, are you sure you're running a 23 pitch? I run a 23M on my 188 with a 150 Yamaha and at 5700rpm get 57 - 58 mph.

James, every rig will run a little different, even boats that came out of the same mold, and that 23" Tempest prop will be just fine. The only way to really improve speed is called horsepower, but there are things you can do to help a bit that won't hurt the wallet too bad. Just having your prop B&B'ed will help a bit. Adding an 8" jackplate (where you had nothing before) will also help a bit by putting your prop in cleaner water where it will get a better bite. You'll find the sweet spot somewhere by having your prop shaft between 3-3.5" below the pad. Just don't look for miracles as far as speed goes since you are at the lower end of the recommended HP rating with the highest being 200HP. I'd look for speeds to be @58-60mph with the rpm's around 5600-5800. When adjusting your jackplate in 1/4" intervals to find the sweet spot keep an eye on your psi gauge and don't let it get below 12psi just to be safe. Keep us informed on how things are going.

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!

    67 really isn't bad. I had a 19'6" Champion with a 200 and that what I ran.
