    Larry Nickels - Set-up help Cobra 1710

    Hi Larry,
I posted on here earlier this year. I have a 2000 Cobra 1710 with a 2004 150 Merc XR6. I had a 23p trophy and I switched over to a 23p tempest plus prop this past weekend and was very disappointed. I don't understand the results.
    Here are my set-up details:
    23p trophy, 55-56mph gps, 3.5" below pad, 5400rpm, 15-20psi
    23p tempest plus, 55-56mph gps, 3.5" below pad, 5800rpm, 15-20psi
What do you think? Any ideas from anyone would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    Mike

Mike...That's strange alright! Are those GPS speeds? Do you have a jackplate? I think the 23 Tempest is the right prop if you're looking for a little more speed and the 23 Trophy if you want a better hole shot and handling. Have you considered getting your prop blueprinted? Over time all props lose their sharpness (bite)and some blades can even become out of balance. Good enough water pressure so you could start by raising your engine up a 1/4 inch at a time until you find the sweet spot. Keep your eye on the water pressure.

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!

Hey Mike, I have pretty much the same set you have. The main difference is I am about 2 3/4 under pad. Our #'s are about the same and hole shot with the Tempest is better than the Trophy also. The only # that is different for me is the rpm's. My boat performs best at about 5250rpms with the Tempest. So my big dilemma so to get more RPM's before I lose bite. I am going to try a 23 Ballistic this week so I will let you know how it goes.

I noticed a recent post by someone with the same boat (1710). He's running a 24 tempest.
Yes Larry....I have a 6" jackplate. I'll try raising it a bit and will let you know.
