    Water pump replacement 35 HP

A guy I know is going to buy 91 35 hp Johnson and I told him to replace the impeller B4 he runs it much. I found instructions for V4 and V6 but not sure what to tell him on the 35. I changed my 2hp Evinrude but it don't even have a gear shift link to worry about. Thanks for any help.

The shift rod connector is behind the 2 plastic water inlet screens. Use two 1/2" open end wrenches.

So everything else is about the same for the 35 as for the V4 or V6?

Read what the man is telling you. You need 2 1/2" wrenches to seperate the rod. Make sure you count the turns on upper and lower. Nothing like a V-4 V-6.

I did read it. and understand about the 2 1/2" wrenches.
But I'm sure there is more to it than taking the rod apart. Just trying to get all the info I can about the work that needs done.

Remove four bolts that mount the gearcase to the exhaust housing. Remove water intake screens (phillips screwdriver), use two 1/2" wrenches to seperate the shift rod connection. Pay close attention the the "keeper" and the way it is positioned on the upper rod. If your not careful it will "fly away" and you'll have to purchase another one. Remove the keeper and the upper nut will slide off the shaft. The water tube may come out with the gearcase. If it does you will have to reinsert it into the exhaust tuner (correctly) before reinstalling the gearcase. Make sure you align the water pump with the water tube when reinstalling the gearcase. If you don't see it go into the rubber grommet with your eyes you may miss the tube and promptly ruin the engine.
My advice, buy a service manual or carry it to a professional and let them do it. Could save you lots of money if you screw up.
