My 396 runs at about 69 and 5600. How much trim do you have? And, if I am correct, you are also running a jack plate?
    I got nothin

Re: Charger 396 video (Jim Dunn)

    Hi Jim,
I have a 8" plate with holeshot & run at almost 4000' elevation. If I was down in the world I may get 75-80 MPH at around 6000 RPM. Trim is at 9:00 on the clock.

    Re: Charger 396 video (ruderuss)

not even close, the Charger is wider,951/2 beam the storm is only 90 on the biggest model. The pad design is totally different, the storm is more of a Champion v wing pad design. The new Charger has a wing style pad with chine reducing pads on each side. These new 396s are really big and fast close to 80 with a 225.

    Re: (MMosher)

Had my 396 out last week and got it to 68 and had to shut it down. Started Chine walking so bad it scared me. I played with the HJP, but it didn't seem to make it better. I drove out of it but didn't try to run any faster...This 396 is sure not my old 195...

    Re: (Stompy)

what prop you running stompy?and what is your prop shaft to pad?you should be
around 21/2 below and turning a 26 tempest or fury, you should be around 75 to 78.
With the new pad it will get up more, but rasing the motor and trim about 3/4 up you should be good to go.

Re: Charger 396 video (TOUCH OF CLASS)

Don't think that the 396 will hit 80 , maybe 74 to 75 on a good day. 80 is extreamly fast.

Re: Charger 396 video (Snoopy Rod)

heck iam hitting 70 in my big sled at 1800+ lbs you nock out 4oo lbs that thing is going to be moving.I think 77 78 is real you might have to play with props and jackplate but it will get close.I remember when I got my 595 61 to 62 was about it.now we have played with jackplates and props we have it rolling now snd that was with a stock 27 turbo lightning,if I send my 26 tempest to mark he can maybe get me 2 mph more.
Charger did a run with a 225 ho with a 26 raker 2 snd it was hitting 75,I think the merc would be faster with a fury on it.

Re: Charger 396 video (TOUCH OF CLASS)

Because of elevation I will be trying a 25 Turbo Lightning with stock vent holes, It will be tested within 2 weeks or so if plans are followed as far as timing, I will let you guys know.

Stompy, I have gotton a little chinewalk at 69-70 gps but not scarey with some props & motor elevations, I wish I had hyd. jackplate. I have no chinewalk now at 70.6 GPS. I will post my findings ASAP.

I also have Turbo props & if I can help anyone with a new prop deal let me know!

    Re: (TOUCH OF CLASS)

25 tempest at about 3" below pad. No way my 200 opti will run 75mph. I was alone and managed about 69mph with all my gear and a 1/3 tank of gas. It might have hit 70, but the chine walk was too much and I had to get out of it. I had it about pegged when I did...When it started chine walking I lowered the motor with the HJP, and it seemed to make it worse, so I raised it and it got a little better but was bad enough that I had to drive it like a Triton.. I stayed on it awhile after that, just had to zig zag down the lake to control the chine walk.

    Re: (Stompy)

Can you wiggle the motor a little? If so maybe it is low on hyd. fluid???
I added a little at wheel & it tightned mine up.
I think I got a little chinewalk with the tempest too but not bad, Cant wait to try the Turbo Lightning & wish I was down lower, I would try a 26p
