Chandler's surgeon was in Philadelphia for a conference today and when she heard of his problems she took an emergency flight home to be with him and monitor him which is amazing and show's how much she cares about these kids. He has developed a form of pneumonia like I mentioned before. They will keep him on the ECMO bypass machine for possibly 5-7 days and let his body rest while the antibiotics fight the infection. The good thing is the valve repair that he had done looks good on the Xray and is holding up from the surgery he went through on Monday. There are still many many concerns but here is the jist of it from the surface.... He was sewed up on Tuesday a day after surgery. By doing so, he began to hold water and build pressure inside him. This caused his sternum to press down and pinch off the valve and not allow oxygen to get to his lungs. He crashed so quickly and by the time the doctor opened his chest back up his Oxygen levels dropped down in the 30's. When they opened him up he bounced back to the 70's. The doctors knew something was still wrong cause it should be in the mid 90's. This is what helped them diagnose that there was an infection also. They did a brain scan to check for damage since his levels fell to extremely dangerous levels. Thankfully his scan came back ok for now but unfortunately that doesn't mean all is ok. It just means it didn't show any bleeding or fluid on the brain. This was hands down the most difficult day of our lives. My son is a fighter and he is going to prove to everyone how tough he really is. I sat down on my bed today and cried for 30 minutes straight. Then I realized that God wouldn't give me this obstacle if he knew I couldn't handle it. He chose my wife and I to be Chandler's parents cause he knew Chandler would need us and need a strong family during his early stages of his life. That doesn't mean my heart didn't break multiple times today, it just means we will get through this and Chandler will persevere. I thank you for today when I emailed you. We were scared and hurting and we knew that Chandler needed the power of prayer more than ever. We pray tonight that Chandler can rest and battle this infection while he is still recovering from his surgery and trauma that his body has been through. We also pray that there isn't any long term affects of the trauma experienced today. He still has many hurdles to cross so please keep him close to your heart.
Continue our prayers Champ family...![]()
