Do you pack the bearings on your boat trailer?
Do you pack the bearings on your boat trailer?
Do you have a picture of yours? Or the identity of the manufacturer and the model number? That would help.

Once a year...along with spark plugs, lower unit grease(2 times a year), water pump, gives me a winter project...
Not sure of the brand of bearings but my trailer is an EZ- loader. I was told the other day when I put new tires on that I should have the bearings re-packed every year. I was wondering what everybody else was doing. I had oil bath hubs on my previous boat trailer and never changed the oil in that since I bought the boat new.

Well the reason I asked is because I have UFP Trailer Buddy bearings and axels (they have a little blue collar that expands out of a stainless steel housing when grease is put in them) and when I asked the same question in the Trailers and Towing Forum Lynn Dyer told me to just make certain there is enough grease so that the blue collar is sticking out a litte. If you do that the bearings and seals are good for 100,000 miles! Check the type I have here:

Other trailers I've had needed new seals at least once a year.

Sure you do!!!!!! You smoking something? You have to use your boat first. Those plugs do not have any hours on them. Use your boat and quite playing golf!!!![]()
To answer the question. I have oil bath hubs that I check and change the oil every two years unless I see water intrusion. Bearings it depends on how much I tow etc before repacking.
i have this one nailed since i have had 2 bearing issues and a broke axle. lucky for me one incident was under warranty. broke axles suck and getting towed home is more$$$. i go every weekend from march to november and was told since i have had numerous issues do it 2 a year. the bearing buddies apparently dont pack it in enough for weekly use. thought for sure a brand new axle would get me a year hassle free but broke down after 11 months 150 miles from home. now i carry extra bearing with me so if issues i hopefully can get it home.
Every fall when I winterize the boat, I pull the bearings, clean and repack them.
