OK got a question for the champ family. My 86 168 has the doors that fold to the outside and has the gaps between the doors on the back. I can fill those to make a full flat back deck. But I want to make a storage area in the front and extend the front deck back almost to the console. See the pic. Since the locker doors on the front open to the inside, I can't figure out how to rework the doors so that the extension will be level all around.

Some type of lift up hinge may work. http://www.hardwaresource.com/...inges There are many styles/shapes.

The more I think about it a swing up hinge is too difficult. Just get standard stainless piano hinges and install them between the lid and the extension like the later bass boats. Like in this pick of Butch's boat.

If you notice where his rod lid pull tabs are...his lids open opposite of regular bass boat lids. Instead of opening from center outward, they open from outside towards center. Regular bass have hinges on the gunnel sides of the lids. His have hinges on the inner edges. I had a 176 F&S that opened the same way, only, instead of the gaps between the rod lids and the center , my center (in my case, livewell) was lower (more like a step-up) to allow for the lids to open. I did build a carpeted center extension, but it had to be removed in order to open the lockers.
Steve's idea of installing hinges between an extension and the lids might work well...!!
