    07 Champion 183 set up

I have an 07 183cx with a 150 optimax on it and I am only getting it up to 53-54 on gps and turning about 5100 rpms max. I used to get more before I got hit by a drunk driver and have a new lower unit. I'm not sure if I messed up the set up on the jackplate. Does anyone have numbers with this rig. I need to refresh my memory. I don't feel like any thing is wrong with my prop.

Either the wrong gear case was mounted, prop is of the wrong pitch, or you have a coil pack out, or injector issue .

    This string will assist you:

How big of a factor does weight in the storage compartment play in the amount of rpm's I'm getting? I have a tempest plus 23 pitch on it just like I had before the accident

Some of our boats are weight sensitive. Why? Have you added more gear since the accident?

Best plate setting for mine was / is 3.75 prop shaft to pad. 183's with 150 opti's like more prop in the drink.

I carry a tackle store worth of gear (really!) Always running heavy, better to have too much tackle than not enough is my motto.

Opti's run stronger in cool weather than hot, best to dial in your set up when it's cool out say in the 70's.

    My 2 cts:
Champ should have equipped the boat (CX models) stock with a 175 and put a 200 on the Elite. (its a heavy boat to begin with)

With 150 its a great machine with a 200 it would be a street rod.

The 183 with a 150 opti is very easy to setup. If your rig isn't running what it used to before the wreck then something else is off. The settings that Butch refered to are exatcly what mine is set at.

I don't haul a lot of tackle in my boat so I can attest that it does make a difference. I've seen pics of Butch's front compartment and he hauls the tackle store with him.

Just for comparison before the wreck put as much as you can in back (or take everything out) and see if the boat will pick up and get the old rpm's. If it does, then I would say you have some prop issues still going on, but remember you should expect to turn a few more rpms when you lighten the boat.

Not trying to be a smart arse, but if you needed a new lower unit due to the wreck what makes you feel your prop is on?

gunna have to stay with what i posted before:

I've gotta 2007 183cx, single console, with a "HEALTHY" 150 Yamaha VMax carb. Running a 23 Tempest Plus 3 blade, at 3-1/4" below pad. I've got as good as 62gps with very light load, and by myself. I still get 59-60gps with 2 people and gas/tackle.
The 150 Yammie carb runs STRONG on this boat!

Above numbers are running in spring months.

2011 183 Elite with a 175 Pro XS set at 3 3/4 below pad running a 23 Tempest. 63 GPS with 3/4 tank of fuel and loaded with tackle and gear, just me in the boat. Hole shot is awesome, what a difference switching to that Tempest made.
