    Maybe a stupid question...

Newbie owner of 2012 ZX 190. Yami 175 hpdi. Took the cover off this evening to let it air out from all this rain we've had and decided to check under the cowl. Noticed that there is some blue looking oil puddling up near the front of the motor (motor tilted up). Is this something to be concerned about or is it pretty normal? Don't see it much anywhere else.

Never noticed oil under my cowling. I have a 08 175 hpdi. I have only had it since January though, so pretty new to Yami's also.

I always leave the motor lowered(straight up and down) while in the garage though.

Thanks. I just changed that. Not sure why I left it trimmed up other than in a hurry to beat the weather.

Yes, I would be concerned there is a leak. I have the same motor and have never seen oil like that. I think the oil system is a closed system and should not leak. Check the fittings on the oil tank. My motor stays tilted up all of the time on the Motor Mate.

I do believe there is an oil pressure sensor so you should get an alarm if there is an issue.

You will like the ZX190. Lots of storage. Plenty of minor mods you can do to the boat. PM me if you have any questions.
Although not as fast as its big brothers it is fun to drive on small lakes. Lots of acceleration and great handling.

Thanks!!! See you have the same boat. I've loved it so far. Think I may have a battery issue as well. After trolling for some time, the engine has a hard time starting. For some reason the depth finders black out when this happens to. I thought they were supposed to be on the trolling batteries, but maybe I'm wrong. Looked at the paperwork from the last service, and its noted that there was a small amount of oil coming from the front of the cowl. Engine has less than 50 hours on it. Was at 30 hours on 2/28/14.

My buddy has the exact same issue with the oil leak. He just took it to the shop yesterday so I don't know what the problem is yet. He is suppose to get it back next week and I will let you know what they find.

Depth finders and any other accessories should be on cranking battery

A bunch I would worry a little bit no big deal. Your oil is ingested into the motor through airflow in the front of the engine. Oil that does not burn up will follow gravity's path once your motor is tilted upwards. If you check your air box in the front I bet there is some in there too.

Stock they put in a 24M battery. The fish finders run off of the cranking battery. Eventually it will get weak enough where you will experience the issue you are having with the fish finders. When this happened to me I put in a 27M battery. I run 4 fish finders and a NMEA network and an Ethernet network. After 8 months it started doing it again. Choice was to put in a 31M battery (it will fit but needs a new tray) or try something different.

I decided to try running off the TM batteries. This is usually not a good thing to do but I did something different. I installed a step down converter to change the 24 volts off of the TM batteries down to 12 volts. The draw of even 4 fish finders is very low spread across two batteries. I have been running like this since march and couldn't be happier. If you are familiar and comfortable with working with DC circuits its not a hard job.

Wiring Tip: When running wiring from the bilge to the console or front of the boat its easier if you take out the driver side glove box and use it as a halfway point. If your arm is long enough you can reach the main wire bundle hole from inside.

True, sounds like this boat has sat idle for long periods letting all of the oil left in the crankcase to ooze its way out. I run mine at least once a week and it's not tilted up that much so I guess I don't see any.

You are correct!! I didn't think of that in the original post. It has sat for at least a month if not more before I got it, so that could be it.

Update, he got his boat back today and according to the mechanic at the dealership there is some sort of rod that controls oil flow to the motor that needed to be adjusted.
