Question for Champ owners with an aurora boat cover (Low profile design)

How well do they trailer? I am looking @ one and want something I can use while heading down the highway.

No flapping and no scuffing on any part of the boat being the mission.

Would like to see photo's of the cover installed if anyone has some.

I don't think I have any pics but I have had one of Del's covers on my boat since 2002. It has been all over the midwest and out in all kinds of weather.

I have one of their seats-out covers. It fits very well, but I have not towed with it yet. Mine has 3 support poles since I have a single console.

Al suggested using regular saran wrap on the gunnels to prevent any possible wear...and he swears by it. Has used it on his Gambler under the cover for years and no marks.

Just want it in my watched topics to keep up. I need a new cover and was thinking Aurora instead of Deans this time. I will use from now on to change it up.

Re: Question for Champ owners with an aurora boat cover (bassin butch)

I just got a Aurora seats-in style cover for my 196. My last boat, Javelin, also had an Aurora cover, but was the low profile style. I haven't noticed much difference when towing either style, other than the lost vision on the seats-in version. The seats-in version doesn't seem to have any more flapping than the low profile version I had on the Javelin. As far as scuffing is concerned, I make an annual trip from Fort Worth, TX to Shell Knob, MO every year with the cover on. I have never experienced any scuffing with an Aurora cover. They use a generous amount of padding at the stress points.

I just got one for my 206 and it seems a little short, I hope it stretches a little when it warms up because it wont reach to go around the hoses in the back of the boat. Also be sure to get the plastic coated hooks! even they will scratch your boat they are not as bad as the non coated ones.

    Re: (brokejeep)

I have the Aurora with the seats in and mine is fine. Both it and Deans are very good covers. Either will serve you well. I went with the Aurora because they had a patern to fit my 188 DC with the seats in. I wanted it that way so I could put it on when off staying at a motel and needing to cover it at night. For it to fit you have to us standard set poles. The hydrolic ones made it a tad short.

I have an Aurora Seats-in cover and swear by it. Unlike some of the low profile covers, there is no standing water that can accumulate on the cover in bad weather. Everything sheds off nice, and it trailers like a dream. For me...6 trips to Florida, 5 trips to Tennessee, and 1 trip to Canada(as well as 6 tournament seasons), and no visible wear on cover or scuffing on hull!

Ok the cover stretched out and fits fine but that is the least of my worries, I towed my boat for the first time this weekend with the cover on and when I took the cover off I just about cried , my boat went from looking brand new to looking terrible because it is scuffed all the way around the top cap and at the back in front of the motor in the black stripe it looks to be rubbed through the gelcoat. I am sick to my stomach over this, I have had it since Feb. and I clean and polish this boat every time I take it out, I have a ten year old truck that I have never waxed and looks better than the boat now.

ouch... that sounds like something I would have done. I'll bet someone can talk you through taking those scuffs out. Good luck, guy.

I am sorry to hear that... That is unusual. Does your cover have the soft lining around the areas where it touches the gunnels?

Al suggested covering gunnels with a layer of regular saran wrap before putting cover on. He tows all over with that and zero issues.

No I didn't use saran wrap, I had a "Travel" cover made for a reason, if I needed to cover it with something else first then I would have used the storage cover that came with the boat but now I wish I did and unfortunatly it is too late.
I paid almost $800.00 for it and it does not have the soft lining around the edge but it does have it over the windshields and seats, I basically got a high dollar fitted tarp. I wish I would have thought to check the lining because I would have sent it back.

    Re: (brokejeep)

Sorry to hear about this - I think you should contact Brian Rush at the factory to see what they can do?

I too just purchased a new Aurora low profile... No such problems with mine on the first or second use (300 mile round trip on March 26th & 150 mile round trip just last week).... 60-70 MPH high way speeds in high winds both trips...

Only issue for me has been the front left strap shown below vibrated way too much & even started a small tear in the strap itself... The instuctions say to 'Twist' the straps to avoid excessive vibration & I had *Not* done that... Once I added the twist it stoped all vibration....

The felt lining on mine is mainly around the trolling motor, windshileds, seats & both pedestals... I use the adjustable pole in the front and a short 20" (sit down) Springfield power pedestal with a bike seat in the back... When racheted down tight, I get little to no wind flap so far & no scuffing on the top cap...
