    Motor toast

After further look into the motor it is shot cylinders scored rusted and takes on water mechanic says it will cost more to rebuild then it will to buy a rebuilt. Either way my job unfortunately ends Sunday. So my question is i have a 40hp sitting around on my old boat and it runs great will it push a 89 184 dcr enough for me to get on the water for a few days of fishing or do I sit the year out of the water?

Just a guess, but I dont think you'd even get on plane with a 40 on that boat...

    Re: Motor toast (mikemac10)

I had a 184, and I put a whale tail on it for pulling my kids on a tube. It would plane at 16 mph with the tail on. I'm guessing the 40 would push it past 16 with a planing aid.

It won't get on plane, and it won't get it on the trailer very good, but better than just troll motor.
