    75 HP E-TEC

I would like to say hello to all the members of this forum. This is my first post to the BBC. I discovered your website recently while doing research for my purchasing of a new boat. Thus far I am impressed with the quality of the participants that take the time to answer some of the questions posted.

My question revolves around my new engine. I just purchased a 2007 Crestliner 1600 Fish Hawk. The boat was originally set-up with a 50 HP Optimax. Now its not. The dealer had a new 2006 75 HP E-Tec that I had him replace it with.

I seem to see a few of the E-Tec owners having some trouble with fuel as it relates to this engine. I have always been a loyal OMC consumer. Have yet to have any serious issues with any of the previous 7 engines. Is this isolated to various regions of the country? What fuel are you running through your engines? I am in upstate New York, the Adirondack region. I have not seen too many of the E-Tec's on the water in this area so I have not really had a chance to talk to any owners to get their opinions.

Ice out is still a few weeks away but everyday that passes is one day closer to putting the tip-ups away and breaking out the bait casters. I can't wait to get this rig on the water and see if this engine does what BRP says it will do. I am sure when that day comes I will have some more tech questions for you all. Thanks for any insight you have to offer. Mike

Re: 75 HP E-TEC (NY Trooper)

    Hi Michael,

    Welcome to the BBC!

Fuel issues don't affect just one brand of engine, they affect them all. As new fuel formulations (especially E10) are distributed around the country, that seems to be when fuel problems crop up. (Uh, no pun intended...)

With a new boat, you are probably less likely to experience problems unless you unknowingly fill up with contaminated fuel. The best thing you can do is always buy fuel from a reputable, hi-volume outlet. When adding fuel stabilizer, ALWAYS add it to fresh fuel.

    Hope this helps,

    -John

You will not be disappointed with the E-Tec! Finely engeneered piece of machinery!

I have been running my 75hp E Tec for 9 months now and I have close to 100 hrs on it (we don't get ice on the bigger lakes in NM). The motor has been flawless---well, except for some initial rigging issues from the dealer. I have always run ethanol-free gas. I'm pretty sure you will be happy with your motor, and yes they are everything they are advertised to be.

Never had a bit of problem with mine so far, ( 2 seasons) Almost identical boat to yours, decent performance with a 17" viper, awsome holeshot with a 15"
