    2004 Champ 187 DC w/ 150 Merc Opti

I've been looking around for a used rig, preferably a Bass Cat or Champ. I don't necessarily need a water rocket, so my choices are something 115HP to 200HP, if possible.

I found a 2004 Champ 187 DC on Craigslist, and according to the seller is in "mint" condition ("mint" is in the eye of the beholder, anyway).

The seller is asking $15,900 OBO. Three questions:

1.) Wasn't this boat originally designed for a 175HP motor?

2.) If so, does the 150HP hurt its value and/or performance tremendously?

3.) What is a good offer for this rig? There's no doubt in my mind $15, 900 is too high, and I'm nowhere close to being an expert. That's why I'm here.

    Thanks in advance!

175 is max hp for this rig. I think having a 175 on it would help the resale value. There are alot of guys on here with 150's on their 187s and they seem to still enjoy their performance.

I do think it is priced high, but I'm not sure how much without seeing it.

Thanks for the reply. It's a little hard to tell the condition of the boat in the pics. I may have him send me some more.

This is a very nice boat. I have seen it in person and it is in "MINT" condition. I would consider buying it myself for that price but I don't want to down size from my 193. I think the boat is priced right!!!!

    I have a 2003 187 DCX with 175 Johnson.
My friend got the same boat 2 days after me with a 150 Yamaha.
I'm glad I have the 175 but his 150 is very nice, too. That should not be a significant factor for you in this potential purchase, IMO.

I guess I don't think it is priced high after seeing it. For some reason I misread the post and thought it was older than that. That is a super clean 187. It's pretty hard to find a boat that nice for that price. I think I paid $16,500 for mine when it was 6 years old. It had sat in the showroom for 2 of those years.

And believe me, 187's are like driving a sports car!

The 186/187 is a screamer for an 18.5' boat with a 175. It should push over 60MPH with the 150. If you have not looked at it close, he are a couple of things I notice on the boat. Be preapred for zero back deck dry storage and a nearly non-existant glove box....not a huge deal just saying from riding in my buddy's 186. Front deck fishes nice for an 18 1/2' boat.
