    Hydrofoil

Why don't outboards just come with different cavitation plate.
    http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=624825

Everyone seams to say on that thread that a Hydrofoil only helps and will not do anything to hurt. One person dissagrees.

I would think that if it was good thing, the motor companies would just use a different cavitation plate design.

Worked well on my last two boats. Haven't had my new one in the water yet to find out.

On 99% of every champ, they are a waste of time, and will negatively affect handling. They are simply masks to hide a bad setup.

That is what I was kind of thinking. I don't have a reason for one, but my Wife's cousin kept telling me that it is a must. Then again, this is comming from the guy that *upgraded* from a Champion to a Bayliner.

    Re: Hydrofoil (slinkeey)

When I tried a hydrofoil on a boat I used to own I couldn't believe how badly it affected the performance.

    Re: Hydrofoil (BassinBarrister)

I had a foil on my 184 for a while, because it let me plane a about 16 mph with a 23 Tempest. I pulled my kids on tubes back then, and it let me run slower and still stay on plane. I never noticed any negative effects, however my LU had several water intake holes plugged and I ran my engine higher than any other Champions I saw running around. It was also convenient to be able to poke around a piece of structure in the middle of the lake looking at it on sonar without coming off of plane.
