fury question

i can only get 5400 wot out of my 25 fury w/175xs on a 186 and wonder what rpm i would gain by dropping to a 24 fury. no jackplate yet. should i get a jackplate first to see if i gain enough rpms or just get a 24. would a 24 alone help me fall into the recomended 5650 to 6000 range. my local dealer has told me a jp will do little for me. oh by the way i am ready for spring.

I would say go with a 24p and a 6" rapid jack - gotta get those R's up around 6k., but I am just a grasshopper...

by the way i am trying to take the cheapest route since i am still paying of my 2010 xs. also the 25 has an unreal chine walk to it at 60+. would the 24 reduce the walking.

I put the 6" plate on mine, and it made a world of difference in the handling, for the better. If you can swing it, start with the plate and then get the running info, and ship your prop off to Mark for "adjustment".

not spring yet. highs in low 30's. was lucky enough to go out day after christmas. water temps scraped 40. 3 or 4 weeks and it will start climbing. wayoop what prop and engine do you have. my 2500 elev cost me some rpms

I picked up about 250 RPMs when I we t from the 25 to the 24 Fury on my Sabre FTD with a 175 ProXS. The biggest difference was I was able to drop my plate so I could get a better bite in rough water and still turn it 5800 RPMs one person normal load in the winter. With two in the summer it drops to around 5650. I didn't lose any speed and the holeshot will break yer neck.

Merc props tend to run different with different props so don't be afraid to try a couple of new ones. The Fury seems to be more consistent than the Tempist.

5400 WOT this time of year has to be lugging that engine in the summer. My hull is different but I actually get the best MPG cruising around 5100-5200 RPMs with the same motor.

I have a 150 EFI on my 181 with a worked 23p Tempest Plus. It will turn 56-5700 rpm in the summer with a load at 1500'. Cool weather and close to sea level, 5900+. A stock 24p Trophy performs very similar.

Like John said, you are lugging that motor...Maybe at your elevation a worked 23 Tempest would be the ticky. Wish we were closer, you could try my props out.

i can get 5400 in the summer. my local dealer let me try one and i fell hard for it. he said don't worry about the lower rpms at 2500 ft. i still have the worry in the back of my head that's why i will probably downsize. i had a 175 efi that blew a cylinder so i went with a new xs. i still have the stock 24 trophy on the shelf but the fury beats it in every aspect except for the chine walk. the rev limiter goes off often when i used the 24. i went in the prop for sale section and offered a 25p for 24p trade and got a reply. but i was waiting for a few more opinions before i traded.

I'm up here in Montana at 2400 feet, I'm running a 24 Fury on my Basscat with a 200HO on it. I ran a 25 Fury on my last Cat and dropped to the 24p with much better results. Mike

It's not the prop causing the chine walking.....if a bass boat isn't chine walking at upper speed, you're not getting the full potential.

YOU, and only YOU can keep the boat from walking by driving it. Search posts on here about how to drive the chine walk.

It's caused by the engine spinning the prop clockwise/right, you have to compensate for that.

Get a 6" rapid jack, you'll be more than happy with the results. You're nose deep in this already, go ahead and drown in it.

Start at 3 1/2" shaft under pad, my wager will be your handling issues will go away.
