    trailer breakdown

great saturday of fishing ends bad on the way home. i round a corner only to feel this incredible jerk and drag of the truck. at first it felt like the trailer came off the ball. i stop as quickly as possible only to see the trailer missing the tire and the trailer dragging on the ground. i took out about a 30 yard strip of asphault.we look at the damage to see that everything but the axle is remaining. cotter pins gone, bearings gone and the lug nuts still in the rim of the fallen off tire. lucky for us we were only doing about 35. most important was that my boat andus suffered no damage. the trailer fender well got dinged pretty good. 50 miles from town was a $276 tow to the tire shop were i can expect to shell out 200-300 more for the fix. not a good weekend.

I have had my boat better than 4 years. The trailor has oil bath, and so far so good. I kinda like the oil-bath hubs because you can visually see if you have the beginning of trouble. On my other Champ trailor I had unexpected bearing and the races to freeze, luckly I caught it before i had axel troubles. I hope you are back on the road soon.

I have a diesel truck dealership and we use a lot of oil bath hub caps, with that said EVERYTIME we replace wheel bearings on a truck or trailer that uses oil bath hub caps we still pack the bearing with grease. Just a little insurance.
