    On the search/champ 190 with a 150?

Im in the early stages of shopping, I think Id like to trade in my lund for a bassboat, likely a champ. Not very many used bassboats that arent complete trainwrecks around me at all, so pickins are very slim, and I havent been able to even see many, let alone ride in them, etc. I finally got eyes on a 184, which by all accounts is a great hull but it's just too small. I know coming from my lund Im going to need a significantly bigger and probably wider boat to not feel cramped--so Im looking at some of the 90" wide boats, probably in the 19' range.

Which brings me to my question--I saw a late 90's 191 for sale with a newer 150 E-Tec on it. Sounds great, except Im wondering how that hull will do with a 150 on it. Im NOT a tournament guy, I dont need to be the fastest boat on the water so i'm not at all scared of a boat that isnt maxed out, but i do want good mid-rpm performance for running big water and a decent hole shot. Anyone have any insight into this? For whatever reason every champ I run into seems to be powered well under its max rating (the 184 with a 115, this, etc) I have yet to see one that is maxed out.

    thanks in advance,

    (edit: it is a 191, not a 190)

In sure it would be fine. If you are not worried about speed you can prop the boat to whatever you desire.

Not sure my rig compares, but I'll throw my opinion out there. I have an older 190 with a 150 Intruder. I do believe the older Mt. Home 190's were still the narrower hulls. So, Probably not much similarities to the newer 191 hulls. Also my 150 Intruder is one of the classic "hot 150's" of that generation (more like a 175). Anyhow, my rig is a consistent 61-62 MPH boat. I Run a 24P Raker that has never been worked or tweaked. I do struggle with bow lift. My hole shot is awesome, and mid RPM's 4000-5000 is where the boat really shines. I wouldn't be afraid of a 150 HP E-tech. Good motors. Resale might be tough if you plan on selling somewhere down the road. Remember even though you might not need the speed, a lot of boat owners want every MPH they can get. Being underpowered will definitely exclude many potential buyers.

My tournament partner has a 1995 190/191? Champion Elite with a 150 FastStrike. 24 Raker, Tournament loaded we are at about 56-57, by himself about 60ish. Great hole shot, One of the softest riding Champions I've ever been in.

The older 190s were 91" in the rear but still narrow in the front. I had a 91 and then a 94. The 94 sit much higher in the front, was slower but you couldn't stuff the nose on it without trying,
