boat for sale or trade

i was talking to a dealer and mentioned either selling my boat out right or trading it. he told me that he didnt want a Champion in on trade because they are not in business anymore and that the larger banks will not lend against a company that is no longer in business. strange I think. i think they are great boats and have no idea why a dealer wouldnt want to take one.

If the dealer has to take a trade for remarketing that also needs to be floor planned, sometimes the bank has a hard time assessing value and depreciation. So it is in the best interest of all parties to leave the risk to the consumer. The dealer may also be heavily floor planned on the remarketing side. The dealer did not totally lie, but did not want to take ANY responsibility for risk either. Really if you look at the state of the industry, from a business perspective I don't blame them. It does slow down the buying process in whole though, but leaves very little to risk.

I think the real reason is that it is going to be very hard for any dealer to sell a boat with such a uncertian future. The question is not wether Champion is a good boat.

I would go to a different dealer and trade the boat. The boat idustry is in the postion of not wanting to floor plan any boats. I bet he would sale it as a consignment boat. In the perfect world for boat dealers they would have no inventory and you walk in and order what you want. But as the consumer goes, if you don't have it you can't sale it to me.

I might seeks a different avenue,,,the 203 is a great boat and loads of folks would pay more than the dealer anyway!!

All boat manufactures futures are at risk. I would suspect there are other brands to follow as we continue to struggle with this economy. The risk is there with all brands so I believe the risk is there for everyone. Even the big R could be in trouble one of these days. Never say never.


By the way Tyson the dealer you talked to obviously does not realize how great a boat ChampioN is. The 203 is one of the best ever made. Anyone in the industry knows ChampioNs heritage.

I love the boat...I mean love it. but I should not and will not just let it sit and not be used. I need something I can take down gravel roads and abuse it during duck season. Had a couple bites but nothing real real serious yet unfortunately

Boat trade in's are worse than cars, ther'll never give you what there even close to worth.
Hearing that come out of that dealer, He'd be talking to my backside as soon as I heard that crap.

i think that dealer is full of cr@p. the truth is the market is slow, and he wants to sell new boats not used boats.

id say use the boat and you have until the fall to sell for duck season. Youre in independence, you might be better off listing the boat on craigslist in a bigger market or ebay.

If a boat is listed with an NADA value that the bank can reference, they will follow the guidelines and loan money for it.
