Pretty boat! Not sure on price. Check NADA and other 4 Sale listings to see what comparable boats are going for....

Looks good but be careful if it does indeed have a 225 promax it cannot be used in some tournaments because a 191 is only rated for a 200HP

I don't think that's a 191, rear end of the cap doesn't look right, not like my 2000 191 anyway. And the dash is different. Pretty sure it's a 193, either way, not rated for 225.

Keep losing my train of thought, sorry for the edits.

It is a nice looking boat and price would be good if everything check out AND you aren't worried about it overrated engine. You said neighbor kid is going to look at it, I'm not boat driving expert by any means but a 225 on a 19ft boat might not be the best or most responsible first serious bass boat, might be a lot to handle. Not saying someone responsible could learn to drive it well, it's just a lot like buying a Mustang with an aftermarket supercharger - increases risk.

You asked so here is my .02. Please understand Im no expert either.
It’s a pretty boat but don’t get emotionally attached to the boat or any boat until it’s yours (don’t get in the feeling someone else is going to get it…), this will cause bad decisions. Look it over real good for general condition and how it was loved… especially for cracks and transom issues, major fading. Check keel for gravel rash, check rub rail for major hits, brown puddles in rear, stains or soft around motor bolts… have the motor PSI tested and check it for repairs, hot spots, evidence of maint, what year is motor... IMO stuff like a livewell pump not working is no big deal but structure issues or motor concerns like power head repairs, high hours… are deal breakers for me. Based on what I see this boat is not pristine.
New carpet usually means high use BUT also shows some love J. This year Champ is an awesome hull and ride, very nimble. Trailer also adds value if it has the good stuff. As far as price – IMO it depends on motor condition but I feel $10K is a bit high. BUT don’t let a few bucks keep you from getting something you love – Always test ride it.

FWIW- I looked at a ton of champs before I purchased my Champs and have had 3. I will not own anything but a Champ! The one I have now was not hurt but very dirty and I saw thru those issues. Some folks don’t care about cleanliness... to me I have to have pride of ownership...

That's a nice ride and are you sure that's not a 202? I can't tell by pics but it doesn't look like a 19 footer. The front deck middle storage looks long but I'm sure these guys on here can tell. If it is over powered I'm sure you will have no problems selling or trading for a 200.

If it is indeed overpowered I would definitely check the transom. Just about every boat I've seen that was overpowered for any length of time had transom issues.

That is a 20' boat for sure. Looks like a 203. I think only the 203 has the rear opening aft compartments. I'm almost positive that is a 203.

That motor is not the best motor for that boat, but it will bring in enough dough to do an equal money swap for a 225 3l.

If I lived in the area, I for sure would be very interested.

Several of the models in the 2000 brochure show rear opening aft compartments. For sure, the 187, 191, 193 and 203. I can't tell what this boat is....

no splash well, definitely not a 191. cut out in front deck between rear part of the rod lockers is about the same as on my 191, it's a 193 until proven otherwise in my mind.

When you look at it, check the "US Coast Guard HP/Capacity" sticker. If it's rated for 225hp it's a 20+' boat, 200hp it's <20'.

Check splash well drain as well, mine was deteriorated on the back side by motor which let water in there and rotted the transom.

That's a 2000 Champion 193 model. The 203 has an extra 16 inches of open space after the step up cooler needs the console.

Why are would he need to be concerned about an over powered boat? It's gonna run good I guess but there are plenty of 19 footers nowadays that would be as fast or faster with the 200 rating and a 200 on them. What would be the diff between running this boat with a 225 and say a pantera classic with a 200 running mid 70s? If your not fishing tournaments and you like the boat I say go for it. Just check that transom about 5 times. Pull the batteries and look too. Hate to see a guy get a new to him boat and shortly after he gets it home notice the brown ooze of doom.

New carpet would be a plus.

If it's overpowered chances are there could be structural damage. I've had several friends in this situation. Also, for insurance purposes if the boat is running a motor that's more than it's rated for, most companies will not cover it. If it's knowingly overpowered, (example, he knows it has a 225 and has a cowling with 200 on it) then most insurance companies would deny any claim once they found this out. Just not a wise thing to do.

A little bit of thread drift here but I feel that I must head off some incorrect statements...

    1. Overpowering a boat does not overstress the transom unless your talking a lot more weight (think old JohnnyRude V-8's). Look back sometime and watch what your motor is doing in rough water, adding another 50 or 100 horsepower isn't going to hurt a ChampioN transom (or most other brands either). Everyone of my boats (except my current 203) has been overpowered going back to my very first flat bottom - treat them with respect and they can be a lot of fun.

    2. Promax is going to be a terrible motor for a new boat owner. Not the right motor for a Champion (Stroker, Bullet, Blazer, Allison would be more appropriate). For a newbie they will get really tired of buying gas. Sounding cool is great for speed boats and runabouts.... Expensive parts and limited number of wrenches (mechanics) really understand how to work on them as well.

***disclaimer*** I am not advocating overpowering a boat, if it turns your stomach just thinking about it then don't buy one. You probably don't run programmers on your trucks either - but that's a whole nother can of worms...

    Peace,
    Don<><

Don is correct in his statement about a ProMax not being the best choice to power a Champ. Friend of mine got one on his Champ...thought it was going to make him faster. Wrong!!! Cost him a bunch of time, money and frustration to get halfway decent performance out of it.
