    Hours on a 225 opti

Looking at a 198 with a 2005 opti with 350 hours on it. Boat looks awsome, but the hours scare me a little. What do you all think? Says it has been serviced atleast 8 times, and the reeds have been replaced. Askin 20K.
What would this motor cost me If I needed to get a new one or rebuild it.

Properly maintained outboards will last a long long time.....not sure the hours on it but look at it this way if it had a bad coil or a lemon motor it is all worked out. We have guys in our club that have 10-15 year old boats still running strong and I bet they have close to 1000 hours on their engine.

Don't know the cost of a rebuild but I am sure it is pretty costly depending what you have done.

350 hours is not a problem if they have taken care of it. If you get serious have a leake down test run on the motor. Most shops will do a complete engine check for around 100. Good compression, pass a leak down test, and the computer will show any faults.

I'd much rather have one that was ran and serviced than has sat and not serviced. Carbon gets hard when it sits, gas with alcohol separates etc....

Have a certified mechanic check it out as part of the purchase, if it checks out roll the dice. A rebuild normally runs 6kish depending on how bad it blows, could you buy a new boat with full warranty for the difference?

I wouldn't hesitate at all! My ride has around 260 hours on it.
